I think I'm mostly hoping for an album full of listenability. Every album through S/T I listen to all the way through semi-regularly. But with the last three only having a few songs on each that I like, I end up not going back very often to listen to the full album. I miss that.

Something Special is a reeeeeal possibilityyyyyyy

but I hope not, I've heard a decent amount of it now, unless Watt puts an army of kazoos on it
It's going to be unequivocally, eye-rollingly, dad-cringe earnest, and I'm going to love it...and we don't even have kids!

yep, and I wish I did, so there's a good chance it will emotionally destroy me

Having just been blown away by the E Street Band live, I am *totally here* for that reference!

There is nothing wrong with earnest, and if you disagree, you're not gonna like a lot of Pearl Jam.

I'm more excited than I probably should be for the Disney reference point.

Upperhand is great in that it's epic and begs to be talked about for its throwback factor. It aligns with the bands own narrative about the record if that makes sense.

My fave tracks:

React respond. Brilliant rocker. Old dog with new tricks.

Wreckage. absolutely beautiful eddie song. Think light years meets seven o clock that shifts between a clean mildly country twang and a powerful all in e street band vibe.

Setting sun. This brings the weird ament driven pearl jam for the first couple minutes. It'll likely turn some peeps off. Eds vocal took a few lyrics to settle for me. Shifts into a big emotive stunner"

I am really turgid about R, R. I’ve been super psyched about this one since metal door leak and everything I have read since has helped me sustain hardness for this song - like coming through at 3am after a six pack and multiple whiskeys (of course these days those numbers would be cut by 60%).

Swallowed Whole is pretty Disney and could easily be edited to a Pixar montage of a green-haired pixie finding themselves in a forest accompanied by a band of wood-dwelling creatures who are hilariously kooky yet surprisingly emotionally mature

:hooray:

I dunno how accurate, or on point that Disney reference is for Something Special.
But since the door leak that was the vocal melody that grabbed me the most.
And that sports clip confirmed this is the one I want to sing along the most.

Agreed.

DM and Running, and not forgetting the Something Special snippet.

dark matter (song) is really really good. there is probably no pearl jam album where it is the weakest song. MAYBE vitalogy (counting the core ten only)

Something Special is interesting because it's not normally my type of thing, but I'm really hoping to be able to take my 14 y/o to a seattle show on the 28th who is at least a casual fan at this point well he might be a little more than that actually. I could really see this song being a time stamp in life if we get there. Songs have a great way of framing memories. I remember still to this day after getting some really bad health news in 2014. I wasn't sure how long I had and I was driving late one night my Son 4 at time was sound asleep in the back my wife was dozing on and off next to me as I drove. I wasn't really focused on the car stero as the volume was low as to not wake them . Then I heard the familiar intro to Future Days it really pulled me in . At that point it wasn't a throw away song anymore.

It is a good song but everything on Ten is better and yes probably Vitalogy.
