at what point does Sessions flip the script and prosecute Trump?

True, the descriptions are fairly damning. It would take an awful lot to read the section on Flynn, and provided Comey's testimony is accepted as honest, not read that as an attempt to stop the investigation.Strat wrote:How do you not read his statements, along with trumps tweets, and know for certain its obstruction of justice?
That being said, it's a Republican Congress, and I think that's going to overwhelm everything else.

Right but at some point can't the FBI, CIA etc bring the charges? Congress doesn't have the last call do they? Honest question. Learn medigster wrote:True, the descriptions are fairly damning. I'm by no means an expert, but when it comes to impeachment or those matters, it's Congress, while the FBI is conducting an investigation that seems more and more like it's a criminal investigation. It seems to be centered on people associated with Trump, rather than Trump himself, but even if he was found to be culpable, whether for "collusion" or for any type of cover up or obstruction, it's incredibly unlikely that he would ever be charged or prosecuted. Some believe a president is actually immune from prosecution (and it would be his own Justice Department prosecuting him if they did).
In short, really the worst that could happen to Trump would be impeachment, which is Congress, and I think the odds of enough Republicans rolling over on him to make that a reality would be next to nil.

IM not even sure why the republican congress is behind Trump. They would be far better off having Pence in office. With pence they would be able to push their entire agenda with far less fanfare. Shit, they might even be able to get things done if Trump were out of the way. At what point do they get fed up with nothing happening because he's a lunatic?

My guess (and it's only a guess) is that they would see impeachment as a body blow they couldn't recover from in the midterms and the next election, regardless of if they have Pence. Also, I think there could be irrationality in play. Trump's the leader, and they want to protect the leader, even if it's not necessarily sensible in the long run.

I think there is an honest question here if Trump even understood what he was doing in those conversations. He seems to think government operates like a commercial business in Manhatten, in which such an action would be acceptable. It further illustrates his unfitness though.digster wrote:True, the descriptions are fairly damning. I also I am highly tempted to head to U street since some of the bars are opening early, to watch the millennial meltdown in person when Comey says he felt pressured and some red team senator changes the subject.

Assuming the dems take back congress in 2018, is there any reason why they couldn't begin the impeachment process then?
