Trying to figure out how much a year they’re making on this. It’s gotta be vast
We did the 3-year deal up front.

That’s an option?
Really?
They’re gonna hump the price up in the next 18 months so guess you got a good deal jumping in early
It was when they launched. It worked out to be quite a bit cheaper than just doing a subscription for a year.

I have kids. Watch this way more than Netflix and it's half the price.

Looks like all the Marvel shows that were on Netflix are moving to Disney+ sometime this month. I’m totally ready for more Daredevil and Punisher for sure. A Power Man/ Iron Fist show would be super cool, but it would take some work going from the cliffhangers both their 2nd seasons ended on to having them on the same show.

Agents of Shield will be on there too.

Looks like they are already gone.

That would explain the abrupt change in avatar from my Netflix account.

The last scene took place a while after the main storyline and IIRC, Danny and some other dude busted into a room and one of them was shooting a gun that was somehow iron fist powered.

Can someone explain to me why it costs so much money to keep a show that's already been produced and released and owned by Disney available in its streaming library?

Residuals to the writers? Gotta pinch those guys and get them back to work, man!

If no one is watching a show they are basically paying residuals and infrastructure costs for no one to watch it.

It can't be that much in exchange for some some content. But if they aren't going to bother finishing series, maybe getting rid of them is best.

Its not just the writers its the cast, producers, there could be license fees. Multiply that across 60 shows it adds up for content that isn't being viewed. I'm sure there are tax write off implications as well. Streaming is a flawed business model.

Do they pay more residuals, etc for the more popular shows that are getting streamed more? A certain percentage per stream, kind of like with music? Or is it generally the same residual cost for The Mandalorian as it is for Willow? If so, I can see why that makes sense as a cost cutting measure. It sucks for the people involved with the shows, though.

I BELIEVE its more or less the same. There could be variation based on individual negations. So and so actor gets more or producer gets more. The streaming companies would have to open the books and be transparent on views. There would also have to be one metric for counting views. What even constitutes a view? There is no standard. So for a streaming model that's built on smoke and mirrors you don't want to be transparent on that sort of stuff. If it turns out the Andor is getting views on par with a CW show that's bad publicity. Better to keep that quite. If a show is getting millions and millions of views then maybe the talent is being underpaid and should get more. You want to keep that quite too. They have internal metrics they know what is and isn't successful they just aren't gonna share that info willingly.

Totally unsustainable! And not even profitable!

If you think about it with say the Phantom Menace Lucasfilm had revenue streams from the theatrical window/DVD/OnDemand/Premium Cable (ie HBO)/regulars cable (ie TNT) then they could dump it on say ABC and make money off the commercials (TNT too potentially). Rise of Skywalker had theatrical/a muted On Demand market/a dead DVD/Blu Ray market and Disney Plus. Really the only real money they are getting is theatrical and despite what many think they only get to keep around half of that. Disney has to pay Lucasfilm for Disney Plus but that's just a shell game. Disney+ doesn't really make any money off Rise it just sits there. I might help with subscriber growth in the short term but does it really make them money? Not really. Its all swallowed by the cost of running the service. The only way streaming will work is if there is just one Netflix (maybe two) and all the other companies license their content to those two streamers and everyone in the world subscribes to one or both of them.

It's like if Frito Lay were to offer a three-for-one deal on their bags of Tostitos.
