This embarrassment of a song sounds sounds like if someone chopped up pieces of a Jet track and stuck them back together haphazardly

I really enjoy listening to the song Ed sounds good and the production is solid (I really hate the BS & LB's production)... The song does not make any sense for the first couple of listening though... my only disappointment is that this should not be the second single.

I should have known better than to give this song a first listen on my cell phone, but I was anxious to hear it when I woke up this morning. So my first impression was not a good one-- this song suffers particularly through a cell phone speaker. It's almost impossible to make out what the guitars are doing and the bass is non-existent.

So I took it to my office and put on some good headphones, and it got immediately better after the 2nd listen, and now 10 listens later I really like it. The only part of the song I really don't like is the intro. :06 - :25. It just sounds so major-y and happy and poppy, and even worse, "spritzy." When that same progression comes back a few times later on, it sounds much better with the chords ringing, the bass, and the additional texturing. I think Eddie sounds great. Of the 2 songs on this album where we've gotten an official listen, he does a really great job of staying within his range, while managing to sound loud and energetic. I also like the lyrics from what I gather of them. I always like when the words aren't overly direct, and I also can't stand forced rhyming, none of which are happening here. It makes me wonder if Josh Evans reads either this board or the one at "the pit." We've got only 2 songs off of this album so far (officially), and it seems a lot of the elements that produced harsh and deserved criticisms of Can't Deny Me and Lightning Bolt appear to have been taken into consideration on Gigaton. Mike's solo is great, I love the use of the whammy bar-- it's got a very Hendrix feel to me. 3.5 Stars for me, but I voted 4 as I'll always give PJ the benefit of the doubt =)

I think it has a lot of energy and propulsion and it’s fun. Fiery. Spritzy? I don’t know her.

Listening back to back with DoC it makes sense. There’s definitely something in both songs that’s been missing with their last two albums (which I don’t hate as much as some ppl on here, far from it).

Johnny Guitar is a good comp to me for this, and JG is one of my favorites so that’s nice, but this song also has its own thing.

EJ wrote:First listen impression: glad I didn’t stay up for this one last night. Yikes. Turns out that snippet was by far the best part of the song. Ed returns to his excessive wordiness. And the music is uninteresting.

Sounds like CDM, Ole, and Supersonic had a 3 way.

Also, what is that sound after the song is over - sounds like a toilet had just been flushed.
That is way too harsh. I put both the new songs (SW and DotC) on a twelve song album with the best of Backspacer and Lightning Bolt, and both the new songs are among the very best on that album.

The only thing I like about this song is the weird solo. I can't believe so many of you hate it.

I def like it - wondering - this is the oddest song Ed has ever written musically? I never would have guessed he wrote this song.

That is word for word very similar to what happened to me, although my first solid listen was on the tram with headphones. So much better than in the bathroom this morning, barely awake, listening through iphone speakers.

VinylGuy wrote:Its way better then previous songs like supersonic or cdm. I love the production; the guitars sound cool; there is a groove going...the solo is great and sounds great...and the outtro is pretty good too.

Still; I’m not loving this one. Feels like an ok song and a weird second single....but they are having fun for sure.

OK this was a bit strong

I really think it improves on every comparable song in the catalogue since Riot Act, though

On first listen I couldn't believe how poor this was. Sounded like a retread of Don't Gimme No Lip. Ugh.

Have to say, on repeated listens, it has definitely grown on me. It's OK. Might work better within the framework of the album than standalone.

Definitely not single material though.

And also, I reeeeally think they missed a trick by not having Axl Rose at the end of the song, saying: "What's so super about blood wolf moon, anyway?"
