the juxtaposition of the beauty of the verses' music, and the weathered ruggedness of Ed's voice, is similar to that of something like Cash's "Hurt"

Reminds me of daughter. And smile. Both. But developed well

Floodlight dreams go drifting past
All the lines we could've had
Distant loves floating above
Close these eyes, they've seen enough
god damn.

I think we all understand. It’s the best song on the album.

Mmmhmm. I haven't managed to put that word to it myself, but this is the part I've been calling out as extra extra extra special for a couple weeks now. I'm happy to have this term introduced.

the keys melody in the chorus is still... annoying to me; I'd prefer just about any other piano sound over that synth

but the song is so good overall I've just got over it

I can see people hating this one if hard rock is their thing but if mid tempo is then how? Hate in truth can really be hidden love!

The Bryan Adams verses and Michael Mcdonald keys keep preventing me from finding a way in. Some nice poetry...I'm resolute, it's just not happening yet.
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…
