It means more crispy surface char, but perhaps at the expense of internal juices escaping and an overall drier dog.

The job of a hot dog is to hold condiments. It's not a fancy sausage. Spiral cut lets the mustard and chili etc seep into every crevice.

I think by doing that you're losing one of the best things about a hot dog, which is that satisfying SNAP that comes from surface tension

Yeah I’m with Jorge on this one. The mouth feel of that spiral when you bite into it will be weird.
