There is also a surfing thing here with you gotta never let her go she is a lighting bolt line. Lightning bolt surf boards and always staying with your board. Also Pearl Jam has never had a album title/ song title connection before. Why now? It must have big meaning to the band. Is the "She" the band the "he" any band members?
:search:

You might have a point.

What has this song got to do with belief in God?

Nature can Kill you if you don't believe let go of your Lightning Bolt surf board
Nature has domination over man not god message to this song.

But why? The rest of the song is about some girl who is a lightning bolt. No spirituality or God in there at all.

And with no repair in sight there is
No God with such might
As you open her world.. wide with such a view.
And Your efforts to arrive
As she finally decides
That all her problems, they will die with you

No god with such might as nature. All natures problems die with man.

Hmmm... OK. That's the first time that line has made sense. Worth thinking on.

This could be a bland song about a boy and a girl. Or it could be a great song about nature's dominance over man as mankind worships at the alter of false gods all the while destroying what could take his life at any instant, and at the same time the thing ie earth that give us sustanance.

This is a song about a whale. No! This is a song about being happy.

"Oh looking through the worn out pages and stages
When you knew not who to be…yeah! YEAH"! The Bible?

It would be a great song if it had all this stuff in it. As it is, it's a song about a girl and waves and lightning bolts that could reasonably be said to be about all that stuff if you read it in a purely metaphorical way. Which might be the intention, but I'm gonna need more convincing.

It may. It will take another version or the printed lyrics to fully realize this. Any she's or he's that are out of place could make a difference. I also still think the first of the two "overgrown weeds" may have been a missed section by Ed.
