That riff is really really dumb. Sounds like something soccer fans would chant in a stadium. DU DUDU DUDU DUDU DU DUU DUDU DUDU

Even though it didn’t start with the other band members in the room, ‘Waiting for Stevie’ sounds more like early or Singles-era Pearl Jam than just about anything I’ve heard from the band in a long time.

Yes, and I think Andrew had more to do with that song than any song on the record because in a sense, it’s almost a tribute to Soundgarden. It has a riff that gives Matt Cameron the opportunity to be as great as we know him to be. I think that drum fill coming out of the bridge is probably one of the greatest drum fills of all time. There’s just no way you can’t make the Mötley Crüe sign. I love that song. It’s the way the bass line and the guitar line play against each other melodically. To me, it feels kind of like a hit, you know what I mean? I’ll be curious if it where it ends up sitting in the pantheon of favorites among Pearl Jam fans.
Stone didn't explicitly say that Watt wrote the riff for WFS. The quote does suggest he contributed in a major way, though.

Based on reviews and song descriptions, I'm expecting to really like:

Scared of Fear
React, Respond
Waiting For Stevie
Setting Sun

I don't have enough of a clear description of these songs in my head yet, but I'm hoping I will really like:

Won't Tell
Upper Hand
Got To Give

The song I am almost certain I will not like, but simply tolerate:

Something Special

The song that I'm unsure whether I will really like or feel lukewarm about:

Wreckage

The clip didn't hit me the way it did most of you guys. We'll see when the full song is available.

Dark Matter, I really like now after initially just feeling like it was OK. Running is fine, I enjoy it well enough, but not likely to rank above any other song except Something Special.

Everything we've heard from Dark Matter so far is better than that song

Power of Right rules.

Way better than Dark Matter and Running TOGETHER.

Good and Evil takes that song behind the woodshed any day of the week.

this is why singles matter. running has grown on me quite a bit (still 3 stars but a fun 3 stars). but i am sure inhave spent far more time with that song befause it was a single then it would have gotten if my exposure was only through the album.

Once Earthlings came out (with some questionable singles decisions) I mostly only ever listened to power of right in the context of a full album listen. If i was seeking out songs it was more likely to be your in the darks, invincibles, and trys - my standout tracks

Power of Right is pretty good. I like Ed’s delivery and melody quite a bit. The music is just ok though. I think it would have been stronger as a PJ song. I don’t think it’s better than DM though.

Power of Right always felt like a rewrite of Eddie's cover of Watch Outside, and I always felt like it paled in comparison to that one (Watch Outside's one of my favorite covers of his). I actually think Ed's really good in those 1999 shows with C Average as a power trio; it could have been fun seeing a solo album come out of that.

I used to have some of those C Average shows. I think I lost them over time. They were great. Was that also a super group situation?

Absolutely love those C-Average shows from 1999 - love the one where the opened for The WHO
C-Average first album was killer too

Wish Ed would've done some writing with those guys
They probably could've made a banger of an album

Have to navigate the ads in this one. It also mentions that Wreckage could/should be a huge radio hit.
