I’ve totally been Odyssey-pilled and read the first book last night. Would love to read the Iliad too and then re-read Ulysses.

Or maybe it's because I hated it and want to go back to the source after so many years away.lennytheweedwhacker wrote: Thu July 23, 2026 5:17 pmBecause you loved the film so much?Simple Torture wrote: Thu July 23, 2026 3:38 pm I’ve totally been Odyssey-pilled and read the first book last night. Re: Universal's Christopher Nolan's Penguin's Homer's TheOdyssey
Loved this. The sound design and score were absolutely insane. I saw it at a pseudo-IMAX with Dolby Atmos and it was ear-splittingly loud but not bothersome at all. It was rad as fuck. Obviously the cyclops, sirens and shipwreck scenes being the biggest showcases of this.
The performances were incredible across the board*, especially Hathaway and Leguizamo. Morton, Pattinson and Page (he surprised the fuck out of me) also absolutely nailed their roles. The list goes on and on.
*Except for Jon Bernthal, who was just okay. He plays Shane from The Walking Dead in everything and I don't know how he keeps landing such killer roles. Sorry, but I just don't see the appeal. Not terrible, just the weakest link IMO.
8.8/10. Mindblowing experience.

Full disclosure: I didn't watch the video
But also, there's no way Burt thought "that's the joke." Whatever the joke was.

Yes, it’s a modern retelling of The Odyssey. Look, I've read about 150 pages of Ulysses and I've read Spark Notes summaries of The Odyssey and I don't see it.Simple Torture wrote: Thu July 23, 2026 9:52 pmYes, it’s a modern retelling of The Odyssey.
