I'm not sure I ever considered breaking up these 3 tracks. In fact, I'm almost certain that I've always listened to them as one song with 3 parts. I can't remember what order though.

Thunderclap > Foldback > Harmony OR Foldback > Harmony > Thunderclap ???

Im not one for ranking songs and all that jazz but If I give a quick think about it...

Id say sleight of hand, grievance, insignificance, of the girl are all 5 star songs for me. Add in some breakerfall, light years, evacuation, parting ways...

Good lord.

And Rival... Good lord that Riff is menacing. THe lyrics and production fit the mood, vedders delivery and the high pitched background vocals....

Haunting. How's our father supposed to be told?

This could have been a really good album but the track list and final selection sabotaged its potential.

Agreed, but I don't care much for the production either - even Tchad Blake's original mixes (and recordings, presumably) leave a lot to be desired for me.

Some of the band's most accomplished songs were recorded during those sessions but the finished record is an uneven and frustrating listen.

Well said. Loses momentum at almost every turn.

For me, after the first 3 songs ( which I do like, but don't 'fit' with the rest of the album for me, and breakerfall would work if not followed by two more awkward songs) binaural is the most satisfying album experience out of the whole catalog for me.

Yes, with some changes it could have been mindblowingly awesome*, but as it is that run of songs from lightyears to parting ways is still an unparalleled run of songs for me.

*it is a little depressing just how awesome it could have been. Add sad, fatal and education , minus gods dice, evacuation and thin air( too happy, maybe), shuffle a little and *chills*

Or hell just throw em all on there, could have worked.

Top 3 record for them, easily. The tracklist issues are vastly overblown, IMO.

Most albums can be greatly improved by eliminating their weakest tracks and replacing them with better songs
