He doesn't like the Rolling Stones either. I think his nuts have retracted.

Prince is the better guitarist but Gilmour is the best at what he does.
As for Gilmour not nailing the Purple rain solo, do you think that was his intent? It's not like Prince followed the While My Guitar Gently Weeps solo at RnR Hall of Fame. I think Gilmour just did a poorly thought out solo and not that he can't play Purple Rain.

Gilmour has great tone and a bottomless well of easy-intake licks, but his lyrical gentility gets boring real fucking quick. I really like him on albums like Meddle and Animals, but can't be bothered to sit through a lot of his other post-70 work.

His solo on Time is probably the most Prince thing he did.

Yeah I guess there are some moments on Dark Side like that as well.

I know he can play it, i just thought it was a weak tribute because he chose not to play it.

I've yet to hear anything Prince has played that I find even a little bit interesting.
I can't.... I mean.... This is.... WHAT?!

Outside of Purple Rain, the only other guitar solo buy Prince that the average person may know is from RnRHoF. Prince really only has one iconic guitar solo, that's not knocking his playing in anyway. If you don't like Purple Rain, I can see it easy to say you don't like Prince on guitar because you just aren't aware of it.
Whereas Gilmour has multiple solos that the average person knows, Time, Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb.

We're not just talking solos, though, right? To me it came across as "I have found none of any of Prince's guitar playing interesting" which is just real weird.

Like...people do realize that wasn't just random people playing the rhythm or melody riffs on all his albums, right? This would seem obvious, but since so many of his videos don't feature him playing guitar (cause he's humping a chaise lounge or whatever) it's like they think he only played lead/solos.

I don't find Prince's playing interesting because I don't find his music interesting.

It's difficult, if not impossible, for me to divide the two because I don't think they're truly separable.

That's really strange to me. I can't really wrap my head around that at all.

It's almost as if Prince didn't want to be known as that dude that played killer guitar because he saw something negative in that perception.

I don't like many SRV songs, but man he could play. Same with Van Halen and a bunch of other "virtuosos." I guess I find it easier to separate the two?

In addition to being very technical, Prince's playing always serves the song; a concept often lost on shredmaster wankers. The opening to When Doves Cry? :heartbeat:
