Yeah, that was a good one. Horace and Pete is a must-see, btw.

I'll wait for Netflix. I get why he's charging $30, but...no.

Does he have plans for a Netflix release?
He mentioned in the podcast that it will eventually get a wider release once it makes back enough money. He specifically said Netflix, though, of course, it was off the cuff.

Honestly, I can't say enough good things about Horace and Pete. He kind of invented a new genre, and it is beautiful. It's tempting to say that it is just a play put on video, but it is decidedly cinematic. Louis talks about that a little on WTF, and he's absolutely right. If you don't want to pay for it, then just steal it and tell your friends to buy it.

He's so brilliant. Just a genuine artist and a true inspiration. $30 is an easy price to pay to support one of the true innovators and genius of our time.

I haven't, no. I'm just not good about downloading content yet. Every day I say I'll grab them when I get home and every day I forget by the time I get home. It's stupid. I really want to watch it.

If you don't think it's worth $31, don't buy it.

Yes and no. What I'd really love is an in-depth look at his profit margin, though I doubt that will ever happen. I appreciate the DIY nature of it all, and that making a high-quality episodic project with talented people is fucking expensive. But why is his the only one that goes for $30, while the ROI for Kimmy Schmidt is just bundled into your monthly Netflix subscription?
I do believe that Louis is one of the most talented artists of our time; and he's shown terrific financial management in the past (for those who don't know, his operating budget for his first couple seasons of Louie was absurdly low). So I'm looking at this thing that yes, does look like a stage play, and I'm genuinely curious if he hasn't gotten a little greedy, or if Jessica Lange demanded an absurd salary, or something like that. I am suspicious of the finance-to-technical quality ratio, and am worried that the $30 cost he originally stated was based on his not finding a wide audience for it. But in the wake of the show's relative success, I can't help but think a cheaper ticket price might cover his expenses just fine.
Kimmy Schmidt is produced and financed by corporations. H&P is financed and produced by Louis CK. One artists work, for what is it 7 hours of entertainment that you can watch over and over again from home at your leisure, isn't worth $30 to you?

Listen to the podcast. Because of his deal with FX, he could only release it on his website. No marketing; limited audience, he financed it himself, etc...I got $15.75 in empties, if you need some assistance.

If I were more interested in CK's work, I'd probably be more inclined to shell out. This series sounds intriguing, but I don't follow CK's stuff in general.
Still, in any case, $31 for a digital series is likely more than I'm willing to pay. I still have trouble with the concept of paying to "own" something with no physical copy. It's a weird psychological block.

I seem to remember that in the first or second e-mail blast about H+P, Louis discussed how he had no idea how to price an online TV show. He probably should have paid a senior studying business or marketing at NYU $500 for a quick analysis.
