As the Reddit kids say, everyone here sucks, but Russia most of all. Russia is the abusive divorced parents of these countries, and their traumatic upbringing has a lot to do with how they have been behaving recently.

Russia could've intervened, claimed the mantle of protector of Orthodox christianity and resulted in a more advantageous outcome for Armenia, but the Arm govt hasn't been sufficiently deferential to the Russians in recent years. More importantly, Russia prefers a level of chaos in their neighboring states so they always have a seat at the table.
