The polling that MAGAs in particular now majority-subscribe to this stuff is tragically unsurprising. It’s very noisily being used as a means of GOTV fear-mongering, without a lot of concern for the level of panic or hate these words can ignite.

Skip past the hardline conservative channels and look at relatively moderate Fox News:

They want you replaced, and they want cheap labor. And so far, things are going according to plan.

You cannot overstate the scale of demographic change underway right now in the United States. It's a direct assault on our democracy. Democracy is the process by which the population elects its representatives. If you change the population, you dilute the political power of the people who already live there. This is an assault on democracy. 

This, and let’s not lie about it, this is the Democratic Party’s reelection plan.

An unrelenting stream of migration. But why? To change the racial mix of the country. That’s the reason. To reduce the political power of peoples people who’s ancestors lived here, and dramatically Increase the percentage of Americans newly arrived from the third world.

In political terms, this policy is called the Great Replacement. The replacement of legacy Americans with more obedient people from far away countries.

The pervasiveness of this rhetoric, often used very directly in commentary like the above, leaves Republican candidates space to imply agreement (“I’m on your side, person who believes that a political party is secretly determined to replace your culture and race”) without having to directly say it…as when Vance says “illegal drugs and Democratic voters” are pouring in, or when Matt Gaetz is an idiot.



What I don’t understand is the reticence on the part of some non-racist conservatives (which is a majority of conservatives!) to even admit that it’s there in front of their face. Never mind pushing back against it…just being able to say that a thing that is happening out loud and in front of them is really happening really seems to be a problem for some.

Not for nothing, I am reminded of this exchange from the Future of GOP thread, which took place 11 days before a man in Christchurch, New Zealand killed 51 people and named his manifesto The Great Replacement.

[We need a Republican party….] Who can successfully (and rightly) demonize the effects the free market has on US housing prices, and offer a plan to combat that problem;

Who preach conservative globalism rather than hardline protectionism;

Who take a hardline approach to engaging in foreign conflicts;

and who take a conservative approach to immigration that doesn't result in national tragedies.

What do your last two points mean exactly?
