I will say again: the driving ambition isn’t Nazism, it’s fascism and oligarchy. That’s why they are comfortable evoking some of the same language and imagery. That’s why tech billionaires get seated next to family. That’s why Elon Musk was there for the AFD this weekend. That’s why tax cuts and deregulations that favor the rich, actions that punish those who have the audacity to not vote for you, and strong man projection language like “derp derp maybe we’ll eat Canada” are the first items out of the gate. That’s why half the Democratic Party establishment, who self-perceive themselves as among the ruling class, are so anesthetized to the moment. That’s why they spent part of Trump‘s first week in Office at a retreat discussing how to go viral….they really have no expectation that this will ever effect them.

I don't think voting against an oligarchy was ever an option. We only get to decide which face it shows to us.

The old oligarchy has collapsed into degeneracy and decadence probably not seen since the French revolution. So infirm that it couldn't defend itself. So arrogant that it couldn't even perceive a threat to it's power, even as it's being clubbed to death. The only thing it can do now is impotently screech about Nazi dogwhistles as if it's 2012, while its geriatric, senile leaders nap in the corner.

I don’t think anyone argues this (I personally believe it’s more overtly oligarchic than fascist, and the latter is where I predict there’ll be some GOP in-fighting as norms get challenged)

I think for the leader class…looking at Trump’s orbit from the top down…oligarchy is the ambition. I also think fascism is seen by that group as a useful tool to get there, which is why you get room at the table for people like the proud boys and hegseth, as well as the instinct towards power consolidation and quite a lot of the rhetoric. I think they are mistaken and naïve to see fascism in that way.

I find I can agree with positions of the Democratic Party while absolutely abhorring their strategies.

If you can't find any Democratic party positions to disagree with, that is a sure sign someone is doing your thinking for you.
