Joe Thornton’s longevity is just mind-boggling. The Bruins drafted him as I was finishing 7th grade. He was the last player from the ‘97 draft to retire, and he also outlasted every player from the ‘98, ‘99, and 2000 drafts. His brother taught at my high school, so we used to go to games and then get to meet all the players after; those are real good memories. Happy retirement!

So, been seeing this news about Adam Johnson in a Euro hockey league and "freak accident"

Few articles mentioned exactly what happened. I guess there was a video of it out there.

I finally googled to see what actually happened and saw the headline "neck cut by skate". I didnt watch the video.

Fuck thats awful.

I saw that in the NHL years back (forgot who it was) but it didn't lead to death. That was terrifying.

Fuck

It is really anyone's Cup at this point. No one is standing out as great, although I think if Dallas gets through this round it will probably be them. Rangers look meh, Bruins and Panthers also look mediocre. Might make for some fun overtime games in the conference finals and Stanley Cup.

Rangers/Canucks 30 years later. Canucks win this time. The US spends the summer overwhelmed by smoke from forest fires and a river of ejaculate from British Columbia.

i know exactly where this happens. it's pretty normal to see bikers on these long rural roads, either exercising or going to/from the shore. this hits pretty close to home, i have friends i played hockey with friends who know his family, kids played at his practices, etc.

i also might know the driver, do we have a thread for knowing murderers?

Brutal. And they were in town to be groomsmen in their sister’s wedding, scheduled for today. What a sad fucking story

Why am i having issues with Ovechkin possibly beating Gretzky's goal record?

Not sure? Maybe his personality is a little more brash than Gretzky's? I think it is cool. Doesn't mean he's the greatest goal scorer of all time, just the highest. It is kind of crazy that Ove up until his injury was off to one of his best starts ever at his age.

Like Lebron becoming the all-time leading scorer, it speaks more to their longevity and sustained relevance as much as it does their individual brilliance.

Most people agree than Gretzky and Jordan are the GOATs, but we can also acknowledge and celebrate the excellence of Ovechkin and Lebron.

When the Caps won the Cup a few years back, that week long drunken binge Ovechkin was on was one for the ages.
