There's way too much prequel bashing in this TFA thread.
Once you accept that EP1 was meant for children; to entrench SW with a new generation, then the rest of the PT gets increasingly interesting from there. Unless of course you're into good acting, then forget about it.

Agreed! But I'm getting my fix by watching the new Rebels season, and slowly rewatching all the movies.

EP1 was last week. It's been a long time since I watched the original version (the last few times I watched The Phantom Edit which is much better). All the Jar Jar stuff is obviously meant for children, and if you put yourself in that mind-space then it's fun. If you're a crusty old purist (like me), then it's just a waste of precious lightsaber time! The Darth Maul duel alone makes it worthwhile.

I dont like the Lightsaber battles though. There is no emotion in there. Just a bunch of flashy lights and CGI flips. takes me out and i just dont care. Still can't beat the Skywalker/Vader duels.

I know you're being sarcastic but EP3 does have some decent emotional moments (relative to the rest of the PT of course).

I used to think there were but none of them are between anakin and padme.

I think the confrontation between Obi Wan and Anakin prior to the wielding of the light sabers is pretty decent though.

Dude, the Maul/Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan fight is visceral as hell. There's a lot of real emotion in there. "Duel of the Fates" is an immortal piece of film score in my mind. And that moment when Qui-Gon and Maul are separated by a force field, calmly waiting to continue trying to kill each other? Magnificent. That sequence deserves to be in a better movie.

The CGI sets and shit just take me out. I dont care about any of it when it happens. Sure, that was a good shot when they stare at eachother through a force field but other than that....meh.

I'd say it's probably even a little bit too old to see EP1 for the first time. Regardless of previous OT exposure, the sweet spot for TPM is like 6-10.

Boom. That was a great scene.

The moment was great, but the moment the shield drops the fighting goes right back to being flash-over-emotion.

Also, don't they have special quick-run powers earlier in that same movie?
