No surprise that I hate the Lost World so much. Spielberg's worst movie. Though it is funny how many lives are lost solely because of the "heroes" actions. Those do-gooder hippy fucks got a lot of people killed.

I like to think the entire plot of the prequels is the result of a secret plan by Jar Jar to destroy the Republic and get those evil white people off of Naboo.

Lucas's lack of respect for his fans is almost impressive.

He had more money than God, legions of admirers, total control over every aspect of his work, and answered to absolutely no one, yet he still decided to make Ep 1 a toy commercial for 6 year olds. Or maybe he just made it out of obligation. I can't imagine he was passionate about it. I don't know. I can't comprehend these people.

It's been years since I watched episode 1 but I do recall liking the sudden mini duel with maul and qui-gon in the desert

YouTube. In HD. That's how I recapped the prequels. It's not great, but it's a helluva lot better than sitting through all 3 of them again. The Padme/Anakin scenes in Episode 2. *shudder*

I never quite figured out what his character was supposed to be.

My theory is that Lucas had conflicting desires:

1. I want to show the contrast of a galaxy where the Jedi are still taking care of things, so that people can see how much better life was before the Empire and how the Jedi discipline was awe-inspiring. Liam Neeson's character, as the elder Jedi in a story full of young people and outlier planets, is my primary window for showing that.

2. I want Liam Neeson's character to be a rogue, who does not always agree with the council and has an impulsiveness most Jedi do not have.

Result: Liam Neeson has no character to play, and says baffling things.
