I've only had one Elysian beer. It was an IPA. It was not at all my jam. But I'd love to try more of what they have to offer.

On January 23, 2015, it was announced that Elysian would be sold to Anheuser-Busch.[1] This deal means that Elysian Brewing Company will no longer meet the Brewers Association definition of a "craft brewery", since full ownership by Anheuser-Busch exceeds the definition's 25% maximum ownership by a non-craft brewery [2]

From what I understand, AB tends to leave the recipes and brewing process alone for the most part. It's the distribution, marketing and sometimes the restaurant management stuff that they really screw with when they buy local breweries.

They did get purchased by AB-InBev and they tinker with all facets of the beer process as well. I only had a few brews from Elysian before the acquisition so cannot comment on a before and after of a particular. A lot comes down to capacity with scaling being far from a perfect science, even with their pretty stellar labs and practices. Growth at their level is such a penny game that it almost hurts to think about.

Space Dust is their DIPA, never had their normal IPA.

Yeah I can't imagine AB wants to come in and try to change things. I've just always wondered if more distribution/higher production would change things at all?

Blue Point and Goose Island were not, though those were already well established brands in a lot of markets that kind of hit a ceiling. Breckenridge has been almost non-existent in CT since the purchase which was surprising as they had a fair amount of shelf-space around but I can't exactly compare it to when I was in CO last should I encounter it. Wicked Weed, should CT get distro, will be interesting as I was a a big fan of a few standards and obviously their sour efforts. I remember the Four Peaks acquisition but being from the East Coast it didn't exactly register to me with them being such a local entity.

And to Ruddo, my comment about scaling is directly addressing an increased distribution footprint thus higher production and that does obviously become a large factor in the grand scheme.

My mistake. Just looked it up. I had and Elusive brand IPA that I really didn't care for, not Elysian. I've never had an Elysian product.

My mistake. Just looked it up. I had and Elusive brand IPA that I really didn't care for, not Elysian. I've never had an Elysian product.

i've been heavily into pilsners this summer. i needed a break from the the neipa's and iipa's i've been drinking. i feel so much better the next day.

tell me about the booze scene in iceland ruddo. do i need to stock up in reykjavic or am i ok with buying around the country?

Stock up at the duty free at the airport. Harder to find outside of restaurants otherwise, and alcohol is highly taxed there. Einstock was my favorite Icelandic beer.
