They threw at Sandoval over the weekend because he broke up a double play at 2nd.

I was at that game, and no one's really mentioning: Sandoval tried to bunt into the shift earlier in the game (it went foul), and the next pitch was right up at his chin. The ump didn't warn the benches, but I feel like he probably had that in the back of his mind when he tossed Jimenez.

Yeah, so basically if you do anything other than what the Orioles want you to do, you are violating one of their unwritten rules.

Basically. The anti-bunting thing is probably the dumbest unwritten rule to ever be used in professional sports.

I understand when people get pissed about bunting in the late innings of a no-hitter, but getting angry about bunting away from the shift is absurd, stop shifting if you dont like it.

Exactly. You shouldn't stop trying just because someone else is close to a no-hitter.

To me, this isn't all that different from saying batters should swing at ball four in the late innings of a perfect game.

It depends on the score, if it's a game that's in hand, I think it's bush to bunt.

Disagree. We've all seen ridiculous 7 run come-backs in the late innings.

Sure, but the guys got a no hitter going, making that scenario even less likely than it would normally be.

It's kind of like not giving someone who is one hit away from a milestone a pitch to hit in a game that's in hand, which I would think is bush league also.

Maybe if you bunt for it a hit he loses his bearings and you get an inning or two of the bullpen to try and exploit.

I've never gotten this from the Jays. The biggest ones I notice are Baltimore, the Cardinals, and Tampa. The Braves were a few a years ago, but they've had so much turnover the last few years I don't know if it's the same.

And how much of an accomplishment is it anyways if the other team isn't trying its absolute best? Like trying a new strategy like bunting?

"I'd like to perhaps try and win this game, increase my stats, and be a genuine competitor using a skill I'm adept at, but I can't because the other team is whining it's not fair to them because their overpowering pitcher is doing 'too well'." I honestly don't understand that argument.

The argument, put a different way, is "Let me try and get a cheap bunt hit in a situation that I'd never normally bunt in because I want to stop this guy from getting a no hitter."
