Biden’s pandering in picking a woman VP candidate should go full yard. If he doesn’t pick a black woman then he’s really just a nutless wonder.

Well running against a proverbial nutcase ought to make for some interesting debates if that's the case.

a Pence vs. [Woman] debate would be amusing to behold

I’m now a fully disillusioned adult. When did the United States become a full blown reality show?

It was the unforeseen glitch of Y2K.

Perhaps reality television is in fact an accurate reflection of American society.

The obvious answer is Reagan, though I'd hear the argument for Nixon. Trump is not new, in this regard.

But I'd put the same question that I asked verb. Why, from a strategic (or, okay, pandering) perspective does Biden need to pick a black woman, given that black voters tend to turn out for the white establishment Democrat? As I said above, I think he does have to pick a woman now that he's promised it (and probably always had to), and I think it would be symbolically important to have a black woman as VP, but I don't hear the strategic argument. Is Stacey Abrams going to deliver him Georgia? Is snubbing Kamala going to lose him California? He's going to lose more black votes through systemic disenfranchisement than he'll pick up through appeasing a Twitter-centric desire for representation (which is not wrong, it's just not as monolithic as being online might make it seem).

I think he's thinking of the history books and wants to corner the market on being with the first prez & vice prez of African heritage.

Picking a black woman would be a strong move considering how many white women call the police because a black man BBQs in the park. Or are threatened with police action because they ask a white woman to put her dog in a leash in Central Park.

Black women are in the uncomfortable position of having to raise their sons to watch their backs. It’s the loudest sound I have in my ears currently.

Interesting that you call it pandering. Go further on that, please.

I’m not going further on that. I’m not the one running for office and I’m not out canvassing for support for a politician.

Mickey wrote:The strongest argument against Warren is that losing the MA seat dooms Dem senate hopes. Not really sure how to get around that, given how tight the senate will be.
The Dems in the MA legislature have a veto proof majority and could pass a law the day Biden announces her as VP that would require the governor to appoint a replacement from the same party as the outgoing Senator.

But then you'd have to hope a Dem wins the eventual special election.

Oh, okay. I just thought since you were the one that said it, you might, you know, have a thought or two about it.

What's there to think about? You don't think mandating a woman is pandering to voters? It can be pandering and also the right thing to do by the way.

Tell me why the word "pandering" is the best word choice.
