If the sound emitting from the speakers is shit, then it’s shit

When Dark Matter emits from my speakers, I like what I am hearing. I recognize it could have far higher fidelity production. I still like what I am hearing. But by all means, let's keep walking around in this circle.

It sounds vital in a way a pj song hasn’t felt in a long while. The take on the world energy they have at their best is back - whether that is the composition or the performance I love what watt got out of them on DM. Running too, albeit to a lesser extent.

I disagree . Who Ever Said sounded way more vital to me.

I think Dark Matter is their best first single since World Wide Suicide. It brings me back to that feeling I got when I first heard WWS (which in turn I haven’t felt since Spin the Black Circle). More aggression and energy for sure. I’m very anxious for Scared of Fear and React, Respond (especially from what we heard from the metal door clip). Running is a short punky rocker but I like it more than any of their recent short punk rock songs (even Mind Your Manners).

I like Worldwide Suicide a lot, and have compared Dark Matter to it before. Today I was listening to the PJ station and heard a live version of WWS that really popped. My hope is that DM will pop the same way.

I think I like DM every bit as much as WES.

And WES is top 3 Gig for me.

This reminds me of the hype train that had enough steam to hop a chasm when Getaway came out.
I read posts in here that proudly proclaimed that Pearl Jam had "finally learned how to write a rock song again."
I can acknowledge and appreciate fandom getting swept up in the excitement of fresh material, but, were WES, DotC, and Never Destination, among others, not vital?

Very true. I like Dark Matter a good bit . I like Running alot more . I think vital is a odd word choice. Stip should offer a explanation on the word vital. Stip is a word Smith, but I think he went a Wordie Vedder with Viiateeelh.

I like Dark Matter more than SBWM and less than DOTC. Running I like a bit more than SBWM, but it's not as good as DM. It is more fun, though.

I like WES more than DM, but I think that comparison should not be made since they didn't release WES as a single. I think they tend to choose "statement" songs as singles, even if they're not the best songs on the album. Scared of Fear maybe compared to WES as an opener. I think it sounds like it would be a more fleshed out song than either single we've heard.

And personally, I like more fleshed out songs that may build slowly or have layers better than songs that just have high energy start to end. For example, RVM will always be better than Go or Animal, for me.

this is a nothing burger of a statement really, it denies the possibility that someone can look past production issues to appreciate the song within

“Guitarist Adam Jones of Tool added, “Most of the people that you hear from on those things – like, ‘When’s your next record?’ – when you do finish it, they’re like, ‘OK, when’s your next one?’ You can’t make people happy. We have this very selfish approach to art. It’s our rules. When you start trying to make people happy, you’re losing yourself. You’re losing that burn inside you of why you do what you do.”
