My pal won tickets to an invite only double screening of the force awakens and rogue one this Sunday in a beautiful theater

He gave them to me.

Hope I don't have to sit through rogue one first.

Maybe I'll just duck in for the last half hour and then watch a real Star Wars film after

Are you insane? An invite only screening of the two most recent star wars films...

To leave even for a second is a second they could be showing teasers or trailers or chopper.

You know what I liked visually about this film? The upside-down Death Star. Have we talked about that yet?

So how do you think they do the artificial gravity in a sphere like that? The levels look flat (e.g. the tractor beam pulling the Falcon into that bay) so it's not like a spherical planet where gravity goes towards center mass but more "down" to the "bottom". So if they're upside down and approaching a planet with it's own gravity field...wouldn't that be a bad time?

Remember that scene in the trailer?

Mon mothma tells Jyn they've recover a secret transmission from her father.

Why did they change that to show Saw Gerrara?

It makes no sense.

She's in the rebel base and she's all fuck this.

Thats the moment you show her that transmission.

Instead they swapped it out to some irrelevant scene *after she's agreed to join the mission*.

She has no impetus or reason or agency to join them at that point. In fact she acts against it.

It's a total nonsensical moment at the crux of the main characters arc.

It's stupid. Among many other stupid moments in this film.
That's my biggest problem with this film.

OK, here's the thing I noticed today. It was at the end where she's trying to transmit, but she has to adjust the dish before it will transmit.

So, there were some architects planning this building ...

Architect 1: "Hey, sometimes when you're transmitting, you need to adjust the dish. I'm just going to put a switch right ...."
Architect 2: "No, wait! Let's build a bridge out 20 feet in that direction." (pointing out into nowhere) "And put the dish controls out there."
Architect 1: "Oh yeah, that's what I was about to say. Lazy imperial archive workers need to get a few more steps on their pedometers anyhow."
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

When he got to go watch it like, a week before the rest of us, didn't he go on about how much he loved it?

I really didn't actually. I believe my initial reaction was ffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
And I hated the first 2 acts but loved the final act. That hasn't changed.
