Really? You think these are worse than the LB ones we have? You're glad they write pop songs now? What? Unfortunatly, I can't confirm that I'll get them.
If it is on the album im sure it'll feature piano, sax, lasers, strings and the 'cold confession' line 30 times. And it'll sound like 'co-oollduh confeshee awnnuh'

Whoever wrote them, I think we can all agree these aren't Vedder compositions.

Re: Cold Confession and Let It Ride - Avocado DEMOS
I think I hear 3 guitars on CC and only two on Let it Ride. If these performances were more of the plug in and play variety rather than really overdubbed, that would lead me to believe that Ed had a hand in CC.Thejambi wrote:They both feel like Stone to me. CC I could see being Jeff.dimejinky99 wrote:See above. LIR has that almost reversed melody in the chords that Stone likes a lot(did he write fatal/all or none?)
The other I think might be Jeff.
But who the hell knows; I often think the songwriting credits are a formality rather than anything else (i.e. there's probably a lot more back and forth than the liner notes would have us believe).

Hmm that makes it interesting... The timing certainly is intriguing.. What are these other 9 songs you mentioned earlier if you don't mind me asking? Have you heard them yet?

Yes... Is this real? If so, a PM would be appreciated.Birds in Hell wrote:Hang on, the what now?Blenheim Augustine wrote:the 10 minute version of release.
Now... Back to the topic at hand... This was AMAZING to wake up to.
This is just based on a couple listens, but CC maybe my favorite PJ song since Binaural. LIR I thought was decent, but then it just totally kicks into overdrive at the end... Just a good old fashioned rocker.
I have a feeling that these songs may have suffered from the "they don't fit on the album" excuse, a la "Undone", as I don't necessarily see a spot for them on the past two albums... Maybe because they are so heartfelt and mindblowingly better than anything on the past two albums?
Lastly, I'm really staring to think its production that's killing PJ. Earlier in the thread it was mentioned that they should go into the studio with Albini or someone similar that would force them to keep it basic, record it "live" and not over think it. Which is what I think these guys need. These two tracks are beautiful just because of their lack of polish. I'm quite happy that the guys are still capable of doing songs like this, but if they're going to hide them for years, and choose songs with generic handclaps and crowd call-backs, what's the point?

Yeah, THIS. It just feels so much more organic, not forced or contrived.Thejambi wrote:It's just nice to have a song breathe. There hasn't been a lot of that in the past couple records.4/5 wrote:Not at all. I don't want them to go backwards at all. I don't want anything to sound like a specific previous era. I just want them do things that are interesting. And since they haven't put out much that's interesting since 2004 I can see how my desire can be seen as retrospective yearning, but that's not it. What I hear in these songs is the natural progression (read: forward looking) of the band until they made a conscious decision to RAWK and become more overtly commercial.Tuolumne wrote:4/5 wrote:Let It Ride....Wow. Has that song really been sitting there while they've given us Unemployables and Supersonics? Sigh.
Let me try that again because I'd rather be positive this morning:
Let It Ride....Wow!! THAT is the band that I love(d)! This shows that they can still write great stuff. Please let this song be on the new record.
To me, this says alot. "THAT is the band I love" I take as wanting to go backwards to a former time. To me, it's the same as when Ten fans were upset with No Code and they wanted the band to still be anthemic and dark. The band have been through this with alot of fans before, except much much worse.
As I write this Cold Confession is playing and all I'm really thinking is "man, this is a great song!!" not "This is a great song because it sounds like (insert favorite past moment here)."

These songs shows that they were a part of a 11 tracks disc... We heard 2 of them, we need the other 9, no?Freewheelin wrote:Hmm that makes it interesting... The timing certainly is intriguing.. They were probably leaked by Adam Kasper because of the massive blowjob BO'B has been getting.

Re: Cold Confession and Let It Ride - Avocado DEMOS
This is why I keep screaming production, production, production -- these LB songs will live and die depending on the production. I get why people have been saying the argument is shallow, but no, it isn't. I don't think we would've cared about the shallowness of parts of Backspacer and S/T if they'd been produced and arranged right. I've often tried to defend PJ's new stuff by saying "Yeah but remember that song in the year XXXX, how awful those lyrics were?" I stand by that, in some cases, but the problem then isn't the lyrics.ilpazzo wrote:Yes... Is this real? I would guess they are from a Avocado Demo disc... So its possible that some of the avocado songs are on it. Can't you picutre Stone heavily grooving some duck neck for both these songs.Strat wrote:stip wrote:Okay, for the let it ride fans--what really moves you about that song? Cold confession I have a handle on
Organic build. Cathartic release. Not some artificial "clap your hands, this part is building and then yeah yeah yeah" approach...
The bouncy guitar a the beginning, stones "lead" lines near the outro while Mccready wails in the back ground. Stone plays this incredibly groovy (textbook stone riffs) guitar line while working off Aments bass lines; which are solidly locked in with Cameron.
Also, eds voice. The phrasing. They are subtle and he is holding a strong emotion while the song naturally climaxes.
So great.

End of the road....from into the wild - right off the top of my head as far as "Expansive" goes. Parting ways?
