I'm sure I've said this before, but I work for the DoD, and provide application support to DoD customers, aka "the warfighter."
anyway, one of my coworkers showed me and a few other folks a trouble ticket he recently was sent and assigned, and it's amazing. It has absolutely nothing to do with needing support. I don't even know how it was opened in the first place or made its way through the channels.
It's basically the outline of a Dungeons & Dragons campaign, and it is very detailed and hilarious.

Starting the new year off with some changes. Had to terminate one this morning first thing. In all honesty, my predecessor should’ve gotten rid of her years ago but he just kept ignoring it and then she became my problem when I took over the center. Never an easy thing to do but it had to be done.
I’m also doing a final warning on a dude for attendance. He’ll miss a couple of day, bitch that he has no PTO and can’t pay his bills but when I offer him a shift to pick up, he always says no. So I’m tired of him fucking missing and being late every day.

maybe your predecessor did, but she just re-showed up for work after about two weeks and everyone acted like she still worked there

I hired a physician assistant for a new center that were opening in the spring back about 2-3 weeks ago. Everything rolling along smooth and then yesterday he sends me an email saying he’s retiring from healthcare but ethically he cannot practice medicine by promoting unhealthy practices such as wearing masks to patients. And he will never wear a mask again.
Our company still requires employees to wear masks.
I suspect bammer had a hand in this.

Has your company ever considered that it might want to change the way it approaches hiring/retaining people?

Unless having someone other than me do it is what you’re getting at, I’m not sure what you’re saying.

im guessing a little more vetting of backgrounds to make sure they are an ideal candidate instead of the only candidate
