yeah, that's about it, really.
Mike has a solo that has a similar feel and extremely similar tone to Low Light, and there's a moment in there that is incredibly similar to the fade out portion of LL....I think it's right before the last chorus. Mike's kind of Miking over the top, but other than that its totes there.

Those were the parts that made me think about Low Light and how much stronger a track it is. The rest is what directed my mind towards 2000-2002.
This song obviously borrows from LL, but I find it has enough of its own (quite different) atmosphere, so it's fine. It's an example of derivation actually working for me.

It kind of derives from an older song in the same way that Collapse into Now derived from older R.E.M songs (i.e. with some style).

This song right here is stuck in my head.
Rivaling Infallible as my favorite. Right next to Getaway.

Haunting song in a haunted record.

Did Yield kick your puppy or something?

Lowlight is fabulous.

Lowlight is great, and its too soon to compare but i feel like im gonna like yellow moon better
I actually agree. I love Lowlight, but Yellow Moon at least has the potential to earn a higher rating in the end.

The only thing I can fault LL for is just not having a lot of emotional resonance. It's (to me) a song about a moment. Not necessarily an emotional or significant one, just a moment in the day. I love that about it. But that's quite a contrast with Yellow Moon and how I ultimately come to feel about that heavy emotional impact in Yellow Moon will have a lot to say about where it settles for me.

Mike on the solo from the billboard article:

"In terms of a lead," explains McCready, "I feel that that was trying to actually write a beautiful part of a person ascending."

Here's a thought: They are two different songs and I like them both for different reasons.

I'm having a hard time with this one. Like Pendulum, this is a direction I personally wanted PJ to go, but unlike Pendulum, I'm not completely sold on this one. It's like based on the type of music I like, I should like this one more than I do, but I don't (yet). It's like I should like this, and not like Sirens, but the opposite is true.

Where Sirens sounds like a bloated, overworked, "hey look at me! please pay attention to us again! Look how big we sound!" embarassment of a song, this sounds a little undercooked and less ambitious. I'll take Yellow Moon Pearl Jam over Sirens Pearl Jam any day. It has a lot less BOBstink on it.

If its true that it barely made the album, then it makes perfect sense, as they love to leave great songs off of shitty albums.

This is what is baffling for me. I agree with you 100%, but for some reason, I like Sirens more so than Yellow Moon at this point.

they're both very good songs (although I prefer Yellow Moon). They're reaching for different places and doing different things. Liking one doesn't preclude you from disliking the other.

I get that, but it's the style of song. YM is the kind of song I think I would prefer. Sirens is the type of song I normally do not care for. YM has elements that I want in a song. Sirens does not. Yet I like Sirens more (at this point).

This makes sense, works with the death/suicide theory too. I just wish the first one was a little more subtle, its before the bridge right? he ain't ascended yet mccready!

This is the song I'm going back to the most suprisingly. Reminds me of can't keep a little, as in I've always thought that was about suicide/finding oblivion too.
