Mal, thanks for the constructive criticism. I agree with you.
I have said in this thread (maybe on the old board) that my photos generally lack subtlety and I need to work on my composition. I have imaged photos for years, but didn't shoot anything (beyond vacation photos, anyway) until Zeb called for more people to post photos in this thread. I do like effect-driven photos and enjoy creating "something out of nothing".
Basically, I enjoy the post-production process way more than the actual photography.

finally going through all the pages of this thread, i found so many photos by you and others that are just wonderful. too many to reply to to be honest.

i appreciate what you do with the effects because i am the opposite. i love to snap a photo at the right time and just let it speak for itself. i was never like this in years past when i was in school for visual design. maybe it's the fact that we were supposed to use effects but then i would always try to take it above and beyond. eventually, i stopped altogether. so again, i love to see the way you and others play with the photos.

Thanks for the kind words. The thing that I have really learned from Zeb in this thread is that you can make anything interesting with good composition. When he has great subject matter, his pics are fantastic. When he takes pics of a stack of books or tires, his pics are equally fantastic. He has a real knack of making the mundane sublime. His post processing kinda sets the mood, but is generally not the focal point.

So, I guess I'm trying to do more work on the front-end and less in post processing. I think my pics have benefited from that approach.

In terms of my photography, I'm only just starting to get a feel for what works. I barely know what my camera is doing from a technical standpoint. What I do know is that having only two or three years of shooting behind me has made me that much more excited for the next ten or twenty years of image making.
