Screw up the leveling of your washing machine and put a load of towels in there while listening to a trailer for a Michael Bay movie. That's what it sounds like.

He didn't speak about it in any sort of depth, but it sounds to me as if he has at least a cursory familiarity with the catalog, so I don't know from where WCT is getting the idea that he's never heard their music.

Here you go, LMS:

Started reading Lewisohn's Volume One of his three-part biography and it's fucking great so far. Somehow he even makes their deep ancestry fun to read. Underscores what a fucking miracle it was that these four jamokes ended up in the same band together. Just the fact that one of their family homes wasn't bombed to smithereens during WWII is a miracle, let alone the rest of the story.

Anyway, this is all to say that no matter how much I know and read about this band, I could still know and read and listen more and it never gets old.

Related side note: been jamming With The Beatles lately and fucking holy shit.

Reading about them really is deeply interesting. I agree completely with this whole post.

Just wanted to take a moment and say that Paul McCartney's bass playing on Here Comes the Sun is remarkable. Do yourself a favor and listen to that song with new ears, taking care to pay special attention to the melodic basslines buttressing a George masterpiece.

Heh, oops. I guess I should brush up on my Beatleology. I know their albums pretty much note for note, but much of the other stuff only in passing.

Download Disc #3 of "Rock & Roll At The Hollywood Bowl" on the green demon to hear the original album.

There is also "White Out" if you want to hear most of the White Album demos and alternates.

There really isn't much else except for much better mixes of the outtakes released on the Anthology albums, and some alternate takes from the "Let It Be" sessions (some worthy, some not). There is also the Decca Audition tape from 1962 which sounds excellent but is pretty abysmal in spots because they were hung over (George is in great form though).

I have yet to determine what the best live performances are. There are a couple to choose from. The Swedish radio concert from 1963 is arguably one of their best because their performance is superb and the audience is enthusiastic but doesn't scream during the music! On the flip side, the 1966 concerts in Tokyo are notoriously awful.
