Soundgarden did not get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. I was certain they'd get voted in.
You have to wonder about their chances going forward if they haven't been able to get in on a Cornell suicide bump.

Not that I agree with the decision, but I could see where the HoF is coming from with their decision. Nirvana and Pearl Jam both got in their first year of eligibility, and they're easily the biggest, most popular groups of the grunge movement. The voting committee might think that those two are enough grunge representation for now.

I mean, if you are basing the decision on influence over their place in the mainstream of pop culture’s moment, you have to induct Soundgarden. It seems that they and Green River were the centerpieces of the Seattle music scene, and Soundgarden the most successful at bridging the gap between punk and heavy metal. The bands who became hugely successful in large part because of them, Pearl Jam especially but also in part Nirvana, I would say did something different with their sounds but certainly Soundgarden had a big part in those stories. In addition, they did have plenty of successful albums critically and commercially, especially from Badmotorfinger onwards. In that sense, they are not an unappreciated item that produced a strange but influential cult following that often results in not getting inducted, but sort of check all the categories. Superunknown alone is just about as big a record as Ten or Nevermind.

Just ask Iron Maiden or Judas Priest how it feels to be snubbed year after year.
Hell, look at how long it took them to get Rush and Kiss in there.
Biggie, Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode needed to be in there though, so did Whitney Houston.

Why don't they just call it the popular music hall of fame?

I was at the R&R Hall of Fame in October. It was neat but underwhelming.

That is such a tiresome point every crank in the world brings up every time the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is mentioned. Yes we get it it's meaningless, whatever

The whole thing seems very silly and I agree with Burt:
