One form of corruption doesn't cancel out the other, and your compensatory racism to make up for nepotism is utter horseshit.

How will the pro-Trumpers here spin this? He literally blamed DEI for a fucking plane crash.
they wont spin it at all
Correct, because who cares? He spouts all kinds of dumb shit in press conferences.
"he can say racist shit as president because he doesn't really mean it"
What's racist about being against DEI? It's literally racist itself! You're the baddies!
The racism/sexism is assuming that any woman or minority in a high up position is only there because of dei.
It's even more racist/sexist to add race or sex weighting to the hiring process. And the real effect of DEI is that at least some are quite definitely only there because of their race or skin color, making it harder for those who genuinely should be there to have credibility. That's literally what DEI is for. And it inevitably leads to poorer performance. It's a near mathematical impossibility for it not to.
Of course, it can be nearly impossible to look at one particular event and declare it was because of some supremely fucked hiring practices, and especially here when the bodies aren't even cold. Trump is of course talking out of his ass here, as he does. But again, it is INEVITABLE that vile DEI practices will lead to worse outcomes and increased accidents than a purely merit based hiring.
I don't necessarily disagree, but I don't know how you untangle people who have their jobs on merit from people who don't. I also don't necessarily agree that before DEI things were a perfect meritocracy. It's always been who you know that really matters.
We've never had a perfect meritocracy and never will, but it's still good to strive for it, and DEI is a hurdle to that, and doesn't solve any other problems we have either.
I'm an equal opportunity over equal outcome guy, so I guess we agree.

Trump is referring to
BRIGIDA v. UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
The lawsuit formerly known as Brigida v. Buttigieg revolves around candidates for air traffic controller positions who were dismissed after they failed a new biographical questionnaire introduced by the FAA in 2014. This questionnaire had an exceptionally high fail rate and was implemented without prior warning to the candidates, many of whom had already passed the skill assessment test. The National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees (NBCFAE) played a significant role in pushing for diversity within FAA hiring practices, which led to the introduction of this controversial questionnaire aimed at increasing minority representation. Before 2014, candidates were screened using the AT-SAT test, a comprehensive eight-hour cognitive examination designed to assess the aptitudes necessary for air traffic control. However, this test was replaced in the hiring process with the biographical assessment specifically designed to increase minority representation in hiring cadres. Shelton Snow, an FAA employee and then-president of the NBCFAE's Washington Suburban chapter, provided NBCFAE members with guidance and some cases answers for the assessment to ensure hiring resulted in his group's desired demographic shift. Though the assessment was rolled back, the result was the near collapse of controller training schools leading a decade long decline in both candidate quantity and quality.
The whole thing reads like right wing fever dream, but is completely true. A thorough and fully cited breakdown is here:
https://www.tracingwoodgrains.com/p/the ... k-overview
Screenshots from the questionnaire are here (yes, these are the actual questions they had to answer to become controllers):

If only an anti-DEI champion had been president sometime between 2014 and now, that stupid questionnaire could have been eliminated and those ATCs given their positions back.

And what is the history of the ATC that was on duty last night? Is Trump saying that specific controller was not capable because of what you laid out?
Obviously it's too early to accurately assess responsibility, and Trump is a fucking fool so he should have kept his mouth shut, but the hiring issue is systemic as Vance points out here:

Is this your first day hearing him? You guys can preach about this for the next four years if you want, but again, no one cares. People want to see DEI made extinct. If he achieves that goal, no one cares about his press conferences.

The right's obsession with IQ pejoratives is revealing. It's probably the most revealing projection they do. And it's sad and embarrassing. But they keep at it. It's like they have no idea how pathetic it makes them look and how idiotic it sounds.

As if today wasn't fucked up enough already, I am staring at an Epilogue post that I completely agree with.
I need a drink.

Starting to wonder how many opportunities Burt feels he’s missed out on due to DEI.

What ‘people’ want to see it abolished?
Who are they? The same mysterious ‘many people are saying’ Trump always comes out with but they don’t actually exist outside his mind?
