Watched (listened to?) that Youtube clip with a behind the door recording, and... I sincerely don't know what I heard.
The bit right before the 1 minute mark was kind of interesting.
The 3:20 fragment was painful to my ears.
Oh how I wish they'd endeavor to depart from the banal 4/4 signature. But I guess the good old "four chords that made a million" formula is inescapable for many artists.

I agree with Jorge that the 4/4 time signature in of itself is not a problem, but I also do agree with Val that choosing strange and more challenging time signatures could help to produce more original-sounding songs.

I'm not looking for bizarre time signatures with PJ; if there's an interesting push / accent here and there (come on Matt, wake up), maybe a 6/8 or 3/4 somewhere, and no spritzy punk, I'm good; return to form
