Fuck yeah. Those 2000 RVMs where they were trying their best to impress Sonic Youth were fucking amazing.

One thing I forgot to ask... you mention the organ over two chords, Jorge. How many chords are in the RVM jam? I think I count one in most of it.

That RVM jam has never been amazing; it ruins the studio version, which was plenty long enough already.

I want you to do this for every song on the setlist.

Doesn't matter. It leaves Jeff free to fill the harmonic space with interesting figures, the guitars to add noise and color, and it resolves beautifully when the band kicks right back into "saw things". There are virtually no dynamics in the "Crazy Mary" jam. It's just senseless plodding while someone bashes through basic scales on the hammond b-3. Neither jam is really amazing, but one captures my imagination and holds my interest much more than the other.

Crazy Mary is just over played. I don't generally mind Boom on that one or any post binaural song, but stay away from the others.

If only we could make that choice with Matt!

There is one from Jones Beach that is just top notch. I forget what night, but it's the show where they play a lot of No Code songs. The RVM is just superb and has some excellent "noise" going on. SY would indeed be impressed.

I think I started going off Matt when he broke into drum solos all the time. He's not a drum solo kind of guy, and they weren't very good.

The 2000 RVM jams were sublime. Wankfest? Hardly. And the only drum solos I've ever heard were during Even Flow.

Maybe the drum solos were in Even Flow, I'm not sure, I've blotted them out of my memory. But all I remember is that the times I've heard RVM live, I've got pretty damn bored. And I love that song.

Gotcha. I'm not a fan of the extended jams in Porch, EF, or Crazy Mary. But for some reason the RVM one has always scratched me where I itch. And the 2000 versions were the best.

I know, it's never been a popular view. Neither, apparently, is that Crazy Mary is cool however they want to play it.

Woah i just listened to that 00 crazy mary and its awesome, never bothered listening to the earlier ones cause i remember not liking the current ones  Definitely better without the organ imo. I've realised the thing i like least about newer crazy marys though, is ed singing the line 'into the house of mary' like hes telling a scary story, all extra deep and shit.

I always thought ed sounded odd on the studio version though, with an increased country-ish accent or something.
