I don’t get it. Do we think they’ll release details today? Drop the whole thing tomorrow? None of this makes any sense to me how they would hype an album by hosting a listening party and then reveal no details about the album full well knowing that fans would find a way to get information.

Instead, they invited the elite industry folks to come to a party to listen and in essence excluded the folks that got them here. Without releasing the thing quickly, that’s a pretty telling move from a band who made great pains at one time to include rather than exclude their fans.

What would 1994 Eddie who wrote a good chunk of. Vitalogy about the abusing nature of the media and industry say about them having a media and industry exclusive party where only they get to hear the new album.

all bands do private listens for the press first, just like all films are screened at festivals and for YouTube reviewers first; this would be happening with any band of PJ's size, which is not to say they didn't at one time abandon some principles (they did) but I don't think a party with the door closed is evidence

I’m chuckling at the thought of the guy who posted the YT video yesterday being an “elite industry folk.”

I mean, it’s one thing to evolve and another to do a complete about face.

Should I join them? Looks like that’s the one.

if anything, the difference now is that we know it's happening (because of YouTube), not that it's happening at all

Obviously not the YouTube guy, but if AP and Spin and other music media and industry folks are reporting on this having been there, that’s the point. If it came with hey we’re releasing this on Friday, then at least that makes a little sense.

what they're doing is antiquated, not new

"industry folks" are *always* first to hear albums, that's how reviews showed up in magazines back in the 90s to generate hype
