I do. I'd recommend The Beer Exchange as it uses the same database as Untappd, it is also still free if you don't plan to export your collection to a spreadsheet I believe.

My collection is out of control. I probably have a couple hundred bottles at this point.

This is pretty cool, but sounds like a lot of effort and I’m lazy so I probably won’t ever do anything like it. I may get a beer fridge one day.

I’ve actually realized this and haven’t added anything new to my cellar in close to two years. I collected so much that now I can’t drink it all before some of it inevitably goes bad. I have some bottles that are well beyond recommended cellaring time.

Ah, but the drinking is so much nicer after a big beer sits for a couple of years. I can't imagine maintaining hundreds of beers, but I travel for work and generally pick up about $30 worth of beer per trip to stick in milk crate and forget until a special occasion arrives.

Beer also doesn't exactly go bad in the time sense, if it is a style that is meant to be aged it will develop in the right conditions (which are pretty forgiving) but I'd say the key is the decision to age the correct beer. Recommendations by the breweries are also just that, recommendations, as some brews will really quite enjoyably change over plenty of time; Sierra Nevada's Bigfoot is a great example of that. That all said I'm not too unhappy about the market shift away from bombers as a format, the development between a twelve-ounce vs a twenty-two ounce isn't going to be anything really perceptible but is sure easier to take down a smaller bottle than find company to enjoy a larger one.

I definitely am cellaring the “right” stuff. Russian Imperal Stouts, BA stouts, imperial porters, etc., etc. Some of them I’ve had for 7-10 years, aka way too fucking long. Most of them are 3-6 years old. I have been recently getting into some of the older stuff, some of which has oxidized and gone bad, some of which has been great. 1-3 years is usually a pretty solid sweet spot for most stuff.

Are you saying you can’t take down a 22oz?

Oh no, that's happened plenty of times but I also prefer sharing beer especially if it has been stored.

Oxidation can certainly a detriment to age but it is not an off-flavor for some developing styles in my opinion and depending on the brew can ebb and flow with other flavors. I've found this mostly with European brews with their ideas of brewing being fairly different than North America's, especially mass market products; I've Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA has been quite good with 8-10 years on it though. I found a bunch of kegs of KBS that were oxidized out of the gate in 2018 which was kind of surprising in one sense and not in others, though Founders has other problems these days.
