“We’ve gotten a lot of flack for people saying, ‘Oh, Force Awakens was just a remake of New Hope,’ and while that was something that obviously was never the intention, it was about introducing new characters [and] using the old, and there’s a natural sense in any hero’s journey of certain tenants will come to play.”

“We very much wanted to make sure that we were not somehow inadvertently being so influenced by one thing, however the job of this film is to be the end of nine films. So we can’t ignore the fact that we come from Episodes I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VI, and VIII. So it wasn’t about, ‘Let’s choose that one. Let’s do a riff on that,’ it was more, ‘How do these stories culminate,’ and that was our job.”
He sounds like a nice guy, but come on, the powers that be for the TFA production didn't read this script and realize it mirrors ANH a lot.

Disney just remade a new hope to take our money!!

Or

Disney didn’t even read the script!!

Which is it. It cannot be both.

I didn't even bring up Disney.

JJ Abrams and Kasdan didn't look at this thing (or a handful of other producers or staff) and realize TFA is a repeat of ANH?

Spoiler: show
If this is indeed true about two certain people training in a forest then this will be a humongous challenge to make it look right.

I got spoiled bad on ROTS, and maybe a few minor ones here and there with the news films, but overall I've been doing OK. It is a dangerous game to play and I realize the risks I take even coming into this forum.

My main point was that I was glad to see people respecting and using the spoiler tag.

Either most of the script leaked, or a great deal of it, because I read online exactly how everything went down - in detail - from these scenes:

Mace vs. Palps - how Mace dies; how palps turns into the emperor (deformed face explained)

Vader - what he looked like all burned up, how he was put back together

Ah. That makes sense. It's been so long I kinda forget that Mace's story wasn't already known.

Lucas had only been telling about Vader since 1978. That wasn’t much of a spoiler.

I'm in the middle of reading "Bloodlines" and I absolutely love it.

Reading many of the complains on RM about how the PT has been handled....im beginning to think that they may have been able to sell this new trilogy if they had utilized many of the storylines, or at least touched on them a bit more, of bloodlines in order to help bridge the gap between the OT and PT.

There is so much great stuff in that book. I know it came out after TFA but I wonder if much of the story that was laid out in that book was "Cannon" at the time of writing TFA. I dont know.
