Track 6 is fairly inconsistent and has very few highlights. Jeremy is the obvious standout. Seven O’Clock has a chance to be in the conversation with some of PJ’s greats. Everything else is basically pretty darn good, but definitely not amongst Pearl Jam’s best material.

This song is the Pearl Jam equivalent to Comfortably Numb.

His best days gone
Hard to admit
Throwing angry punches with nothing to hit
Luminous thoughts were once all he had
Fading lights, lost eloquence
There’s still a fire in the engine room
Knows relief will be coming soon

The part beginning here has reminded me of Comfortably Numb.

I can't help thinking "there's still a fire in the engine room" is about sexual virility

That part somehow reminds me of Sleight of Hand. The vastness of the music and the way Ed is singing, just in a lighter version.

I think you mixed up Thin Air and I Am Mine. Whoa nelly. I enjoyed some solid live versions over the 2000 tour, but Thin Air over Off he Goes?! WMA?! I'm speechless.

Just to came into this thread to say how much I'm loving this song. It's getting better with each listen!

Upon first listen, this was one of my favorites. After a few more listens, I like it but it’s slipped a bit in the song rankings.

it is upper middle on a very strong album. I need a bit more in the outro (a solo maybe?). But I could listen to Eddie sing those verses all day. He sounds so smooth and confident and wise without airs or pretense
