I know, I'm just answering to the "Don't you like Stone?" thing. Perfectly easy to like Stone and hate LTRP.stip wrote:Won't argue that either

Well, of course. But Stip also hates Bayleaf and Moonlander. And there-in lies the joke I was making. Emphasized further by the dog comment. For those playing along at home.harmless wrote:I think LTRP is OK, but it's hardly an example of Stone at the top of his game.durdencommatyler wrote:I get that. But I think that song's so much fun. Why do you hate Stone Gossard so much, Stip? Did he run over your dog or something?stip wrote:LTRP
I liked a few of the moonlander songs i've heard. I just never cared enough to listen to the whole album. I already like it more than bayleaf.durdencommatyler wrote:Well, of course. Jesus, man. Did Gossard put a banana in your tailpipe or what? Woof!stip wrote:I liked a few of the moonlander songs i've heard. I just never cared enough to listen to the whole album. Me too....i feel SW is probably a better song, but LTRC is what i really want to hear.durdencommatyler wrote:For the record, I think Let the Record Play is probably worse than anything on Bayleaf and Moonlander. But I still like it more than Swallowed Whole.
I agree. Or "Off He Goes", "Long Road", etc. etc. Everything with Ed and an acoustic guitar apparently doesn't belong on a Pearl Jam album now.Kral wrote:Solid 4 star song.
Everyone keeps talking about an Into The Wild feel to this, but much of Vedders "solo", "acoustic" etc. songs can fit this mold. If "Small Town" was written today, many would be connecting that song to that movie, I reckon..
Swallowed Whole is a lot less incongruous than Just Breathe, The End or Future Days.harmless wrote:I agree. Or "Off He Goes", "Long Road", etc. etc. Everything with Ed and an acoustic guitar apparently doesn't belong on a Pearl Jam album now.Kral wrote:Solid 4 star song.

I wonder why those songs get nailed and TMW doesn't.Birds in Hell wrote:Swallowed Whole is a lot less incongruous than Just Breathe, The End or Future Days.harmless wrote:I agree. I'm happy to stand up and nail Thumbing My Way - I find it only slightly less dull than Future Days.stip wrote:I wonder why those songs get nailed and TMW doesn't.Birds in Hell wrote:Swallowed Whole is a lot less incongruous than Just Breathe, The End or Future Days.harmless wrote:I agree. Thinking about what makes those songs different in my mind, all I can come up with is that TMW feels more like a true band performance instead of an Ed solo performance that the band is merely adding some color to.stip wrote:I wonder why those songs get nailed and TMW doesn't.
I dunno. Sometimes it feels like a person's opinion (on whether a song is "a true band performance" or not) will only depend on whether they really like it. To take "Sleeping By Myself" as an example: some of us believe it totally belongs on Lightning Bolt (because we really like it), while others of us think it's an "Ed solo song" that has no place on the record (because we don't like it). The only difference, though, is that one groups likes it, the other doesn't. It's the same song with the same performance. "Just Breathe" and "The End" (or even FD) have more minimal band participation, but the range of opinions on them is the same.theplatypus wrote:Thinking about what makes those songs different in my mind, all I can come up with is that TMW feels more like a true band performance instead of an Ed solo performance that the band is merely adding some color to.stip wrote:I wonder why those songs get nailed and TMW doesn't.
Well, I like "The End" quite a lot, and I like "Just Breathe" just fine, so I don't know that that applies.harmless wrote:I dunno. Sometimes it feels like a person's opinion (on whether a song is "a true band performance" or not) will only depend on whether they really like it.
it was listed on itunes as an eddie vedder song, so no.theplatypus wrote:Well, I like "The End" quite a lot, and I like "Just Breathe" just fine, so I don't know that that applies.harmless wrote:I dunno. Is "No More" a Pearl Jam song?
