The problem is that so many people look to them for some semblance of validation of their own opinions on music. They think it’s a personal affront if Pitchfolk gives a review that doesn’t match their view of an album. Everything that Pitchfork is today is based on the stock people put in it.

Yup. Love em or hate em, they still carry a tremendous cultural cachet, which also can result in situations like these

In this respect, they were just ahead of the curve; very few sites do comment sections anymore

In opting to disallow ANY opinion that may counter their editorial content, they've positioned themselves as being the arbiters of musical taste, when both the quality of their writing, and their subjective ratings, very often don't back that up.
Having my common sense mistaken for a superiority complex is a price I'd be willing to pay if it meant not opening up my website to the kind of toxic, nutjob ranting posted over the last few pages here.

I agree 100% with bidding good riddance to online comment sections. What a failed experiment.

I haven't tried to rank them yet but I really like illicit affairs.

i should've mentioned that any song i think should've been cut is more of a reflection of the album being about 2-3 songs too long and the specific songs being (to me at least) the easiest to eliminate. they're not bad songs by any means.
