The problem is that so many people look to them for some semblance of validation of their own opinions on music. They think it’s a personal affront if Pitchfolk gives a review that doesn’t match their view of an album. Everything that Pitchfork is today is based on the stock people put in it.tragabigzanda wrote:I don't even hate Pitchfork -- I actually find a few great albums from them each year! I just like poking fun at them because they take themselves way too seriously for the quality of content they deliver.

Yup. Love em or hate em, they still carry a tremendous cultural cachet, which also can result in situations like theseChris_H_2 wrote:The problem is that so many people look to them for some semblance of validation of their own opinions on music. In this respect, they were just ahead of the curve; very few sites do comment sections anymoretragabigzanda wrote:But the biggest evidence I've seen of their superiority complex is their complete and ongoing lack of discourse with their readership: No LTE section, no message board, no open comments.

Having my common sense mistaken for a superiority complex is a price I'd be willing to pay if it meant not opening up my website to the kind of toxic, nutjob ranting posted over the last few pages here.tragabigzanda wrote:But the biggest evidence I've seen of their superiority complex is their complete and ongoing lack of discourse with their readership: No LTE section, no message board, no open comments. In opting to disallow ANY opinion that may counter their editorial content, they've positioned themselves as being the arbiters of musical taste, when both the quality of their writing, and their subjective ratings, very often don't back that up.
I agree 100% with bidding good riddance to online comment sections. What a failed experiment.

Re: Taylor Swift
i should've mentioned that any song i think should've been cut is more of a reflection of the album being about 2-3 songs too long and the specific songs being (to me at least) the easiest to eliminate. they're not bad songs by any means.
