Hearing this has really made me appreciate the studio version a whole lot more.

It's pretty staggering.

These guys were a genuinely formidable live rock band at one point; who knew it'd all turn out like this?

only on RM can the sheer insanity of pining for Evacuation pass for mainstream opinion

You seem to be unable to separate your dislike of the song from the skill of that performance.

and that sounds like a pretty cool version of Go, but that only captures a tiny fraction of what it is like to hear Go live. Even the very best Pearl jam boots have barely scratched the surface. I know some of you think I'm making this up, but something about pearl jam has never translated well into live recordings, as opposed to, say REM, whose bootlegs are quite faithful reproductions of their sound.

it was a skillful rendition of evacuation, which does nothing to change the fact that it was a skillful rendition of evacuation.

so yeah, you're probably right.

If it makes you feel better I don't think Getaway is a bad song; just that it, like everything off Lightning Bolt, deserved a better performance.

getaway is towards the bottom of that album for me, and that performance IS bad.

And I agree regarding Lightning Bolt. A very strong set of core songs not done justice. The limits of the production have become clear after 9 months of very regular listening (since it's Ellie's favorite car album)

I bet if you let Ellie listen to the latest Secret Mixtape she'd never ask for Lightning Bolt again.

she's heard it. Twas a fine mix. When will chud claim it?

The truth will be revealed on June 10th, once Secret Mixtape #4 is posted.

Or, whenever the mixmaker wants to own up to it. Whichever happens first.

chud is establishing important 'deny that it's your mix' precedence. I'll need that when I drop my best of grunge mix on RM

I am amazed there are four others that gave this album 5 stars.

For what it's worth, Varis jumped in early and posted a lukewarm review of his mix to throw people off the scent (or perhaps I should say "aroma"). I think it went unnoticed though.
