half way out - the sudden urge for an ass-plosion. No options, i was running in a residential area.
Really pissed me off because i was feeling great. that last 400 meters was brutal, thankfully i didnt draw mud.

happy friday.
I got a bad stomach about halfway through a 50-mile race once. The end result was not pretty, but I finished the damn race. Luckily, it rained and the course became a mess, so everyone just figured it was mud.

This actually happened to me in college. I was jogging at night around campus and got the rumbles. I spotted a porto by the women's softball field. I expelled what was bothering me from my body but the cannonball like splash that was created in the depths of the porto hole came back up and got me. I ran really really fast back to my apartment and took a shower.

this picture in reaction to that story made me laugh hard when i saw it. today while i was at the gym running, i thought of it, and i started laughing on the treadmill.

well, week 2 of marathon training has come with its share of aches and pains. the inside of my left shin hurts when i walk. it doesn't hurt at all when i'm sedentary, and it actually only bothers me for the first mile or so when i'm running. i'm icing frequently and hoping it's something i can just live with.

monday was an off day and then it went 4, 5, 4, 4, so the weekday runs weren't too bad. i've been running at an 8 minute mile pace. if i could do that for the marathon, i'd be over the moon. the weekend was supposed to be 5 today and 10 tomorrow. since my leg has been aching, i thought i'd do the 10 early this morning and then have sunday and monday off to rest. i set the 8 mile pace and just hoped i'd be able to keep it. the first hour was fine. i never felt great, but i never felt like i wouldn't be able to finish. i took a gu rocktane energy gel for the first time ever about 40 minutes in. i don't know if it was because of that, but mile 9 was the best of the day. it felt effortless. it also got me to thinking i should just run the 10 and 5 all at once. and that's just what the fuck i did. 15 miles in 1:59:32. for the last mile i was messing around with the speed, so when it was time to stop, i didn't have much left. only after i got off the treadmill did my knees start to scream. icing as i type. felt like a successful day, though.

Im kinda unhappy with tonights run but it wasn't really bad. I made it 3.1 miles in 29minutes and 50 seconds, but i really wanted to get back to 3.25 miles again, though i did improve on my time by about another 30 seconds from my pace on Thursday. i was totally at my limit tonight so i don't feel like i left any more distance on the treadmill, and im wondering if it was a combination of a decent hike earlier while playing disc golf and i ate some 5 guys fries not that long before my run. Anyway, it was by no means a bad run, but my competitiveness with myself has me a bit disappointed.

Really great work, brother. You've got this marathon thing licked. A 3:30 finish will put you in the top 15% at your marathon. You're a fucking animal.

10 miles in 74 minutes

It was 80 when I left, so I took it easier than I have been. 7:30s felt nice, so I just went with it. Cruised the entire way, then picked it up for the final mile. It's kinda rare that I let myself have an easy day, so this was nice.

I did not run this morning. And I don't even feel bad about it. Tomorrow... if I don't run tomorrow, I'll feel bad. But today, I don't even feel bad about it.

Indeed. Even that god everyone's always talking about took a day off, right?

Back at it hard after being sidelined a bit. Mile swim yesterday. Back from a 4 mile snowshoe trek which had over 800 feet of elevation gain. A glorious sunny day here, and it always blows my mind to be on the mountain overlooking the harbour and our downtown. Next up, downstairs for another half mile in the pool. Then bbq steaks and the Bruins game.

I wish i had a pool available to do laps in, i used to do that quite a bit back in the day, such a good full body workout.

Mine's only 40' long. It is a pain in the ass counting up to 140 lengths to be a mile. In the summer there's an outdoor pool that's 135 metres (nearly 500 feet), 11 lengths and you've done more than a mile. Looking forward to that.
