I guess what bugs me about the whole thing is that... according to the actual report... the Colts were also playing with deflated balls. And for the entire game, not just maybe the first half.
So, while I do think that if Tom Brady knowingly participated in and/or was aware of inappropriate activity and rule breaking then he deserves to be punished, I still don't see what the big fucking deal is overall.

If I'm the Pats and Brady gets suspended, I refuse to play the game unless he is reinstated.
Or, I just send Brady out there and say "we don't view your suspension as valid."

I'm here to take my lumps, too. Here's my take:
It's well known, thanks to Jim Nance's reporting, that Aaron Rodgers tries to over-inflate the balls to sneak them past the refs. Boomer Esiason mentioned today on CBS Radio that we're naive if we think that Brady is the only QB who screws with his balls (haha). The big difference, of course, is that Rodgers sends 'em in and does not screw with them after the refs look at the balls. Meanwhile, Brady has the balls to actually screw with the footballs AFTER the refs already checked them out and over-inflate them So, he deserves a suspension.
Meanwhile, teams like the Jets, Seahawks, Falcons, Broncos, etc. have cheated the cap, pumped in crowd noise, tampered with free agents, etc., but that doesn't get blown out of proportion in the media. That doesn't excuse Brady's actions. but the media coverage is so over the top at this point it's ridiculous.
On a related note, those text message exchanges are hilarious.

The major difference with the Falcons, and their cheating was mind numbingly stupid and annoying for those in attendance, is that there was no need for an investigation because they admitted it. The Patriot Way is to hide it, cover it up, deny, ignore, patronize....
This was nothing. Tom likes the balls softer than standard. Probably 1 to 2 psi not as bad as the game balls were that day even. The lengths he went to make that happen and then lie about it are why it's a story at all.
The Ray Rice story got overblown because Roger somehow decided it was only worth 2 games. This one got overblown, because Brady tried to cover it up. No one else on the team has a reason to care about the PSI of game balls. If he admits it after the game it's a dead story by the Super Bowl.

Brady is going to fall apart this year anyway. Hes too old. Suspension might help break in a new guy.

well that response was prefect. ellis is usually a pretty level headed dude, you can tell he's upset by this.
i think the whole thing is overblown. i bet this happens in any city where the starting qb wants less air in the ball.

If the NFL really has big "balls," and takes the deflation of footballs sooooo seriously, it can suspend Brady until he gives up the data on his cell phone. The NFL asked for it, he declined, and that's viewed as conduct detrimental to the league. In this sense, an indefinite suspension of Brady makes more sense then the "behind-the-scenes, already agreed to" minor suspension that I suspect is forthcoming.
