Though the first is more watchable than the second. Which is a complete disaster start to finish.

He whole prequel thing could have been told in one movie. But the third comes closest to Star Wars as we know it.

We'd better find a way to put him in it. If we pack in enough of the surface iconography, nobody will notice that we're not doing anything new.

Funnily enough, the thing that best illustrates what I expect these new movies to be is from the prequels: someone thought it would be cool to see Yoda in action training young Jedi, but at the same time it was deemed important to include as many reference points as possible to the old films. So you had the very silly "public school-style Jedi Academy, with 20 kids holding baby lightsabers and wearing blast shields as they swing at floating robot balls" thing. Hell, even the Jedi robes were silly. Apparently, instead of Obi Wan wearing them as a reasonably logical disguise as he hit in the desert, they were just ordinary Jedi attire. So he was hiding on a planet Darth Vader knew he had visited before, dressed as...himself.

The prequels were an opportunity to see new things. Maybe they wouldn't have been so poorly written if they hadn't been designed with the sole intention of repackaging the old.

Obviously there are other things wrong with the prequels, but that Jedi Academy moment (and the "look guyz i has R2 and the Falcon!" talk) is exactly the sort of decision JJ made with Star Trek…serve nostalgia at the cost to character and story.

Also, there are few things less appealing to me than the idea of watching modern day Harrison Ford sitting in the Falcon cockpit. I don't really go for GILF porn.

Maybe, but it wasn't enjoyable.

I thought the old Knights of the Old Republic games did a great job with Star Wars history. It had plenty of new things, while keeping the same flavor.

I think the Disney imperative (I think it was Disney) that the new movies must include Darth Vader is pretty indicative of what you are going to get. It could still be fun, but it won't anything new. But if you expect anything new from the next multi-million dollar installment of an established and calcified 35 year old franchise owned by a superultramegacorporation, you kinda deserve what you get.

The only thing I liked about Episode One was Darth Maul. So Lucas killed him.

All the potential in the Universe. Maybe the most misused character I can remember in the fantasy/sci-fi genres.

I never understood the love for Darth Maul. Or having any opinion on him whatsoever. Determining character potential based entirely on cool makeup just doesn't do anything for me.

he's not a deep character or anything but as a thoroughly evil attack dog he was very cool. I mean, in A New Hope, Vader is just an evil bastard, and he was cool. he had potential, which is more than I could say about anything else in that movie.

too bad he missed the memo about having the hIgh ground.

It went way beyond makeup for me. There was a whole implied mythos surrounding him that was never fully explored. I thought he'd be the prominent villain throughout the prequels. But, as Burt said, they just kinda turned him into an attack dog. I wanted to know more about him and the Sith race. How come he's the only guy in the whole (film) universe that has a double-sided lightsaber? Etc, etc...
