I’m not sure those themes are mutually exclusive from white male rage. I think that’s how a lot of those types would likely be characterized.

I guess my feeling is if Joker was played by someone from another ethnicity or gender it would have been the same movie. His whiteness wasn't important to the story.

Sure, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to extrapolate from the movie to the cultural climate it was made within and many events and outlooks it parallels.

Yeah you could read anything into anything and I guess if I think about it the background characters in the movie inspired by the Joker could be operating on that level even if the man himself wasn't.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Wouldn't this apply to Once Upon A Time then?
It applies to every work of art. But people are obviously free to disagree about whether it’s there or not, generally by citing evidence from the art itself.

I just saw 1917 and I would be OK with it winning Best Picture. Once Upon and Time in Hollywood would be my pick though.

Haven't seen Parasite yet.

Joker definitely isn't subtle, but also had great acting and atmosphere and was generally a beautiful movie in terms of filmmaking, so I could forgive its one-notedness. The color palette alone was really gorgeous and made it worth watching IMO. I don't mind an unsubtle movie if it's done well, which I thought it was. And I found Phoenix just completely arresting.

I thought it was great. I did often find myself thinking about the technical aspects of the "one continuous shot" thing, which took me out of it a bit. It was pretty impressive though.

The bit wasn’t really about the Oscars (other than the Gerwig snub), it was about wildly misreading and overgeneralizing the movies in question to a degree that’s either genuinely deranged or deliberately obtuse in order to pander to anti-art liberals.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding your point but what makes that skit different than any other satirical skit on SNL? Quality or goodness/badness or success aside, I'm not sure I understand how this exaggeration was so different or so much more pandering than any other.

With the talent involved in both The Irishman and Ford v Ferrari, its surprising you dont have any kind of interest on both.
