I might revisit their catalogue soon though.
Yeah Ænima is really really amazing, especially those first three tracks. Goddamn those are perfect songs.
Lateralus can get a little too progwanky for me at times, but there are still fantastic songs on there. I especially love the transition from "Parabol" into "Parabola".

I pretty much have Ænima, Lateralus, Undertow, and 10,000 Days all ranked pretty close to each other and the can change position pretty easily
So far the rumour mill has the first single dropping early May, with the album later in the month, and the last song (???) being 16 minutes long. No screaming - all clean singing and a few tracks feeling like they could have been lifted off Undertow

Maybe, but I'm excited for more music from them. I just wish Maynard could kick Lazy-bones Jones into action more so there wasn't such a long wait between albums

Nope. No no no. That album is worse than ever. I think it flat-out sucks now.
I don't have much hope for the mythic fifth album being any good if it ever does come out.
I don't know why but I really like the sync version of the three songs from the album:
"Perfect Sync" is the name for the "hidden track" on Tool's 2006 album "10,000 Days" . Unlike other hidden tracks, this song is built from three tracks on the album. "10,000 Days" is mixed with two other songs, "Viginti Tres" and "Wings for Marie" to create this massive track that compliments and competes, then degenerates after the climax at the 9:14 mark. The key to lining up the songs is the musical moment that happens at 9:14 (9+14=23, or, in latin: "Viginti Tres"). "Wings for Marie (Part 1)" and "10,000 Days (Wings Part 2)" have an identical time change and breakdown (although each recorded separately). After this part, the song starts to fall apart and the vocals begin a call-and-response pattern until the song ends. I believe this version to be perfectly synced and the closest representation to the true track. Enjoy!
Yeah they're up their own ass about a lot of things but that's pretty cool.

Lateralus is the best Tool album. Aenima is close but all the “joke” songs hold it back.
10,000 Days is pretty boring aside from a few songs like Right In Two and Jambi

This. Message to Harry Manback & Die Eir von Satan or whatever it's called are fucking stupid, holding the album back from being an all-time classic. For me Lateralus is one of the best albums made by any band, ever.
10,000 Days didn't really live up, but Jambi is a pretty epic moment for them. Ridiculously good live.

Very similar to me. However, Aenema and Lateralus are very close equals.

Same. I skip less tracks on Tool albums as opposed to the last decade of Pearl Jam efforts.

Yeah same, but I also skip the entirety of Backspacer and Lightning Bolt so Tool wins by default.

Undertow and 10,000 days are underrated.

I was unaware that anybody underrated Undertow, but apparently there are a few.
If I had to rank em:
Ænima
Undertow
Lateralus
Opiate
10k days
Though some days I’d rank opiate 3 or even 2. Guess I’m OGT. I like the new stuff and loved 10k days when it came out, but listening to it now some of it is kinda cringey.

His voice sounds bad on 10,000 Days and it’s now 13 years later...I don’t have high hopes

I saw them live last summer and he can definitely still sing. He nailed the old tunes from opiate and Ænima. There’s just something about the way he chose to deliver the vocals on 10k that kinda sucks. It’s jaded somehow, like in the way that a guy who made a living being angry but isn’t angry any more would write music. I have faith that the instrumtal parts of any new tool record with be stellar, but Maynard is the weak link IMO.

I think Maynard still has the goods, the last album was heavily influenced by the death of his mother, so his delivery is kinda mournful. His voice isn't going to be the same as on Laturalus, but I think he can still deliver!
