Saw the Rolling Stones in Atlanta. It was a lot better than I expected it to be. The sound was great and Mick still has all the moves and Keith and the boys can still bring it.
Next show is Foo Fighters on the 4th of July. It will be interesting to see how this goes with Dave's recent tumble off the stage and broken leg.

Coming up on two years since I've been to a concert, team. I've been kind of feeling the urge lately, but I feel like there's no one I want to see.

I dunno, I feel like that wouldn't be the kind of show I'd be into. Those huge arena deals kind of put me off. Probably been spoiled by being front row at a large percentage of the shows I went to.

I should probably add that while it's been nearly two years since I've been to a show, it's been nearly four years since I've been to show that I advocated going to.

I do enjoy the experience. The anticipation, seeing the band, all that. It's fun. I miss it. But
fuck do I hate the crowds. Most of the music I listen to is pretty heavy/aggressive, so those are the bands I'd be interested in seeing. But metal crowds are fucking insufferable assholes. They mosh and push and don't give a fuck about the experience of anyone who doesn't feel like throwing their body around. I hate it. It completely ruins the fun for me. I'm kinda screwed.
Also, where I live I would have to go to Chicago to see shows. And I hate going to Chicago about as much as I hate metal crowds.

I getcha. I'm very selective about the shows I go to anymore, too. I tend to see the same couple of bands over and over again. And there are certain venues I just won't go to, like Radio City. New York crowds are just the living worst.

The only place where I've played shows and attended shows and have been consistently disgusted by the crowd is Chicago. Their heads are so far up their collective asses, it's unbelievable. It must be the shitty atmosphere giving way to their shitty attitudes. The crowds in New York City are fantastic by comparison.

That's insane.
I've only ever seen one show in Chicago. Tori Amos back during the Scarlet's Walk tour. And the crowd was wonderful. I've seen dozens of shows here and without fail every single crowd has been pretentious, uninterested, they all talk during the whole thing. They just sit there. Or stand sometimes but always sort of ironically and they never move or dance; they just slump there like they wish they could be anywhere else. They push and shove. They're entitled. Everyone except me is completely fucked up. Drunk people falling over themselves and running into trees and dropping on top of people. Super Bros all coked up and objectifying women. Blech.
I can't think of a single show I've seen here where there weren't at least examples of major shitheaded douchebaggery. Except MAYBE this last time that I saw Pearl Jam at the Barclay's Center. From where I was the crowd was fantastic actually. Nobody bothered me in the slightest. But the stories I've heard from the floor are different. I think I just lucked out of being around any of it that time.
Hell we managed to out pretentious JACK FUCKING WHITE and make him pout and leave early.

Two places I would love to see a show are Chicago and Minneapolis. I guess I should cross Chicago off. I have heard great things about the crowds at shows in the twin cities. Don't bust my bubble haha. Maybe Daft Twat can confirm? That was just an excuse to say Daft Twat.
I saw Jack White 2 years ago and he was fantastic. Engaged the crowd and seemed pretty happy to be there. He gets a lot of shit for being pretentious. I laugh a little when people call a rock star pretentious. That is like calling a politician shady. Though Justin Vernon was incredibly down to earth and humble when I met him.

Yeah, I totally agree. My use of the word was meant to be tongue-in-cheek.

Have seen a bunch of shows recently including Steven Wilson last night. Among the better ones have been The War On Drugs (so much better than I expected), Counting Crows and Dave Hause (so under appreciated). Lots of show already bought to see me through the year; Bleachers, Counting Crows, Keb Mo, Dave Matthews Band, Ben Harper, Chris Cornell, Foo Fighters (the last six in a three weeks run), U2 and King Crimson. Not renewing hockey season tickets is providing lots of alternate entertainment funds.
As always with Steven Wilson, an immaculate show with amazing musicians. The visuals were a little more muted than previous shows as they stick closely to the Hans.Cannot.Erase storyline. Doubt he could ever top the Grace For Drowning visuals. He's playing as a five piece and has lost the sex/flutist and more guy from the past. The crowd was amazing. Loud between songs except when Steven Wilson was talking and silent during the songs. His two hour fifteen minute setlist was;
First Regret
3 Years Older
Hand Cannot Erase
Perfect Life
Routine
Index
Home Invasion
Regret #9
Lazarus (Porcupine Tree song)
Harmony Korine
Ancestral
Happy Returns
Ascendant Here On...
Encore 1:
The Watchmaker
Sleep Together (Porcupine Tree song)
Encore 2:
Sectarian
The Raven That Refused to Sing

I would be interested to hear how he achieves the sound from his albums without the sex flutist.
