Maybe they didn’t get to lightsaber training yet.

He had his saber the night Luke came to his hut. Safe to assume they were all in his class.

Interesting to note we haven’t seen them with sabers, they all have staffs and pikes.

Who do we know fights well with a staff

Hmmm interesting.

My train of thought was that maybe Luke started his academy with a young Ben, since it was Leia’s kid. His first attempt at training. So maybe Ben was further a long and Luke was like “let’s go find some other students”. They search the galaxy as Master and apprentice, and find the initial group of students. While Ben had a head start and is using a saber, the other students are in force 101, learning to harness the force. Then Ben and the six get corrupted, kill the others , demolish the academy and leave. So in that instance, they wouldn’t have sabers at the moment. *shrug*

That’s a really cool and very likely sequence of events.

Go you.

Excited to see his relationship with the knights of ren. Are they just mindless henchmen that do his bidding? Or will there be power plays where they challenge him?
Wish they’d featured in tlj
I’d say that will be explored in the comic series and not even touched on in the movie.

Spoiler: show
Kylo will do something heroic, that only Rey witnesses, to "redeem" himself but he will also understand that the world will never forgive or accept him. He will fake his death and disappear with Rey's help and she will name her new order "Skywalkers" in honor of him.
Goddamn how I hope this doesn’t happen.

A happy ending will be fine, but there better be some serious death and destruction leading up to it.

No. Like major character death. But they won't do that. They'll Disney it up

Either Kylo or Rey should die.

Either Rose or Finn should die.

Hux (obviously), someone like maz, maybe. There should be great sacrifice in order to motivate the new order known as Skywalker

I don't think you can blame Disney for not killing off major characters.

Disney pulled the trigger on a major character when Lucas couldn't.

I really don't think Kylo or Rey NEEDS to die. But I think it's entirely possible that Kylo will. Though, I think my prediction is more interesting and doesn't just repeat Vader's path, which is what killing Kylo would be. Especially if there is any kind of redemption. Which feels pretty certain because of what Star Wars is and has always been.

Han? They didn't have a choice did they? He didn't want to do 3 movies I thought?

Also, that hooded Rey is probably some dumb clone or something. They'll kill the wrong Rey at the end, thinking it was an evil clone, but it was really good Rey. They fade out to the surviving Rey saying "excellent"

He didn't want to make Return of the Jedi and asked to be killed off. That's why they froze Han at the end of Empire. They weren't sure they could convince Ford to come back for Jedi and they needed to "write him off" as a contingency plan. Once they convinced Ford to come back, he (like you) thought the final chapter of that trilogy needed major consequences. Kasdan agreed and begged Lucas to let him kill Han. Lucas said absolutely not.

Part of the way they convinced Ford to come back at all for The Force Awakens was to give him what he wanted 30 years ago and kill him off. There was never discussion about doing three movies. But I think he would have done three if they'd asked. He's been on a Greatest Hits tour for years now.

I think the PT actually had braver deaths than the ST.

I was really only talking about the OT. But which ones are you referring to?

In the official text by Disney about hooded Rey, they wrote:
Spoiler: show
that it was a vision. Not sure if that spoils it or not.
