Completely depends on the vinyl master that was used. In some cases the older pressings are better; sometimes it's the new one. For titles that have been reissued multiple times and across different countries, often there is one single pressing that is accepted to be the best one available. There are lots of internet threads devoted to identifying the best pressings of certain titles.

Well there is DEFINITELY a lot of desire for that sort of stuff, if you're approaching things as a collector. You asked us to show our work, so I'm speaking as an audiophile. I've personally got no interest in specific vinyl editions beyond the best mastering and pressing job.

I’m trying to figure out how to buy/give our oldest some older stuff I feel she needs. She’s not any kind of real audiophile but I’m not sure how she’d feel about getting the older release over a newer version. I’ve already given her Zep II and IV from Papa Wease’s collection, and I wonder if I should keep scouring that or just buy her new pressings of the stuff.

Have you ever been to Brooklyn Record Exchange in Greenpoint? Good vibes and good selection, found some great stuff there at very affordable prices, and the staff is awesome
