My average pace was 5:22 per km. I walked for a good 3 minutes at halfway and drank about a litre of water over the course of the whole thing. I have gone on record to say that I think taking walking breaks on your run is irrelevant. You can go further if you drink water and walk which is overall a net benefit. I have no problem with stretching in the middle of a run either.

surfndestroy wrote:Anyone have half Ironman experience? Would like to try to do a self times one in December and want to have an idea of what training should consist of.

Half Ironman distances are 1,900 metre swim, 90 km bike and 21.1 km run.

Right now I am thinking,
Mondays: 30km bike and 8-10km run
Tuesday: 1500 metre swim and 8 km run
Wednesdays: 20 km bike and 12-15 km run
Thursdays: 1500 metre swim and 8 km run
Fridays: 12-15 Km run
Saturdays: 1500 metre swim and 7 km run
Sundays: 50-70 km ride

Is that too much?
I would say so. I would alternate on a 3 day rotation. Run, bike, swim. Push each activity on their respective days.

I did my first triathalon about a month ago and I dont think I ever trained multiple activities on the same day. Although that is a lie because I don't really count swimming. I will often swim in addition to whatever else I'm doing that day because swimming takes zero toll on the body.

I actually did set personal record for my fastest km and fastest mile yesterday. Almost got the new 5km record too. My fastest km yesterday was 3:58. But that's exactly it. I push hard and then I quickly catch my breath, drink some water, and start going again.

I puked a few times a couple runs ago too so it's not like it's easy for me. I'm pushing past the point of vomiting ha.

Honestly this whole summer has been a waste for me. I fucked my ankle up so bad...

I get hard on myself for walking too much sometimes. Getting better, but still embarrassed. Keeps me motivated to push.

guys, ultra marathon runners walk for stretches. you need to stop wasting time worrying about this and just enjoy the entire process. make sure you are paying attention to your body during those walks and resetting anything that's getting tight.

oh i know...i used to be more frustrated, but i know there's nothing i can do about it...it's really hard for me to run more than like .40 miles consistently though
