I wonder if we'll ever hear the true story of the making of this album.

That would be a short one. “Well, Ed didn’t want to do anything for a while, then all of a sudden, he did!”

I think there is a bit more to it. Nothing sinister, but just something more fleshed out.

There is an internal story. Definitely.

There wasn’t much board discussion on this point either - 4 members wanted to tour this year; 1 member wouldn’t tour without new material. I don’t think Ed was the holdout.

So Ed’s holding up the album and someone else is preventing a tour. Things are definitely rocky.

I had heard something slightly different - Ed wanted to tour this summer and the band didn’t want to go on tour until the record was done, so he decided to go solo to Europe. When I heard that I imagine McCready and Matt just do whatever the consensus is and Jeff and/or Stone are the ones that opposed Ed.
I doubt things are as dire as these events make it seem if Mike said their working on songs and Ed and Jeff were seen out in public together last month at that Nick Mason show.
I’d guess they’ll have a record out within the next 6-12 months. Who knows if it will be good but I doubt that this is the end of Pearl Jam.

whatever that film was he got rejected from was a kick in the balls confidence wise and here we all are scratching our heads..
