Yeah it's getting to be chaos here in NC. Everyone is coming down to the beach this weekend and next for the holiday and it's crowded as fuck, even though you still can't go into restaurants. I drove by a place today that has a cluster of fast food places and the drive thrus were backed up out on to the main road and blocking traffic

Here come the “collar counties.”

Two thirds of IL’s deaths and cases are in Chicago Cook County, so now the burbs surrounding the city want to reopen independently, claiming their residents don’t generally commute to the city (which isn’t true), and seem to be unconcerned about city folks flooding into their communities if they were opened.

I imagine it wouldn't have been easy to do but did the individual states close their borders as part of the process in the States?

Supposedly Rhode Island had police officers on the highways pulling over and kicking out cars with New York or Connecticut license plates. Can't imagine it was effective. I can think of a dozen ways I could get into Rhode Island without using the highway which is the issue with closing boarders. There are a million side roads. You'd need the National Guard. Troops with guns probably wouldn't go over well.

Yeah my wife’s grandmother is in RI and she says it was happening
They weren't sending them back; but they were getting their contact info and checking in to make sure they were self-quarantining after they arrived. It was more directed at New Yorkers, since a good amount of CTers come over the border to work. This only lasted for a few days before Gov. Cuomo and Gov. Raimondo talked it out. Then they started just looking for plates in driveways: https://turnto10.com/news/local/authori ... nse-plates

I've walked up and down the road in that screenshot a million times going to and from the beach. At first it made me smile then I realized it won't be happening this year and now I'm bummed.

Yeah, wow.

Preventing interstate travel (except for essential services) has been pretty key to the success we've had in containing things over here.

Yeah, I didn't think it would be possible in the US but this has been super-important for us in getting on top of things here. You can't expect to control your own infections if new infections keep being allowed to show up in your territory.

I think the act of "closing the borders" really made people sit up and take notice that shit was well and truly real too. Hard to ignore that you can no longer travel interstate. It made people realise we need to do what needs doing, right now.

And hell, I was planning a surprise visit to Spenno and 'sleep and riddles. Maybe in 2021...

Too tired to know what to make of this, but it makes me sad to see collective action failing again in the U.S.
I was born in the wrong country.
Hopefully it's only a small percentage of people choosing to not wear a face covering in indoor public spaces or crowds.

The breakdown of American society's ability to enforce the rule of law is interesting.

Businesses Chafing Under Covid-19 Lockdowns Turn to Armed Defiance

Armed militia-style protesters have helped businesses across Texas defy coronavirus lockdowns and reopen. Protesters say they are enforcing the Constitution.
I guess ultimately you do the best you can and hope society doesn't come unglued.
Seems with a lot of things these days, you have to decide if actions are productive or are futile.

This is baby stuff compared to if there is, say, a famine due to the pandemic.
